Jamie Foxx won an Oscar in 2005 for portraying singer/songwriter Ray Charles in the Taylor Hackford-directed Ray and now he's looking to take on another well-known personality as he enters the boxing ring to portray "Iron" Mike Tyson.

According to Variety, Foxx is attached to an untitled biopic on the controversial sports star that's being put together and produced by Foxx's manager Rick Yorn with "The Sopranos" creator and Oscar-nominate screenwriter Terence Winter writing the screenplay.

So far, the project doesn't have a distributor although there should be a lot of interest in the project once all the t's are crossed and i's are dotted, mainly due to the popularity Tyson has achieved not only in his heyday as a boxer which took him to the very top of the sport, but also following a fall from grace that included six years of prison for rape, and subsequent charges of driving while drunk and drug possession after the death of his daughter and filing for bankruptcy.

In recent years, Tyson's life has turned around with notable appearances in hit movies like The Hangover, a one-man show that played in Vegas and on Broadway as well as a bestselling memoir called "Undisputed Truth."

It hasn't been reported whether the memoir might be used as a basis for the film or how much of Tyson's life will be covered in this biopic nor whether another actor might play the younger Tyson.

Previously, HBO tackled Tyson's story with the 1995 film "Tyson" starring Michael Jai White and Tyson's friend James Toback directed an award-winning documentary of the same name in 2008.

Foxx was recently seen as Electro in Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but he has experience with sports movies having played Dwight Brown, Muhammad Ali's corner man in Michael Mann's Ali and quarterback Willie Beamen in Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday. He next stars as Daddy Warbucks in the Sony musical Annie.

Winter is coming off his Oscar nomination for adapting Jordan Belfort's tell-all Wall Street book The Wolf of Wall Street into a hit film for Martin Scorsese.

Foxx actually did a really funny impression of Tyson in his stand up special and he's a good actor. I think this should be good especially with Terrence Winter writing. Also kind funny that they are close to the same age, but Foxx can definitely play younger and it wouldnt be the first time an actor did that.
I hope this actually gets made

Haha, this is gonna be awesome.

Foxx is waay too old to be playing tyson at this point. Mike arguably peaked as a fighter in his early 20's and isn't Foxx in his mid 40's or something now?

Michael Jai White already played Tyson in a tv movie and I think he's still probably a better choice.

Michael Jai White is also like 40.

Besides Foxx looks relatively young for his age. Plus movie magic and all that

Black don't crack. Im 36 and still look 17 *****.

Wow! Scorsese is directing this?!? This is going to be good.

I reiterate...awesome.

Now the most pressing question, will they show the Holyfield ear bite ;)

Raging Bull is my favorite film, so I'm certainly not going to say no to him doing another boxer biopic, but I would rather see The Irishmen. Raging Bull is great because he used it as a vehicle for a personal character drama. As long as he does that again and not a more traditional biopic like The Aviator, I'll be pleased.

Tyson's life is perfect for a film.

I hope they have a scene of Tyson chasing Brad Pitt from his house.

If you're not watching Mike Tyson Mysteries, you're missing out.

This almost sounds too awesome to be true. I love Foxx when he gets a decent role he can sink his teeth into, this should be perfect for him.

I can't post the video because of a curse word but type in "Jamie Foxx details opening scene to Mike Tyson Movie!" into Youtube.

It sounds pretty cool for an opening. Feels like we've seen something similar before but it still sounds good.

Im wondering how soon could this come out. I haven't heard of Foxx bulking up like he'll need to

Jamie Foxx says his long-developing Mike Tyson biopic is moving forward: 'It's a definitive yes'

On Mark Birnbaum's Instagram Live series Catching Up on Wednesday (the relevant portion begins around the 53-minute mark), the actor said the biopic is moving forward when asked for a definite answer. "It's a definitive yes," Foxx said. "Look, doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get them done. But we officially got the real ball rolling."

Foxx also teased some of the details of the film, saying he hopes to depict the "different lives" of the boxing legend. "We want to show, everybody evolves," Foxx said. "I think when we lay the layers on Mike Tyson in this story, I think everybody from young and old will be able to understand this man's journey."

"And then just the technology of how I'm gonna look, I guarantee you people will run up on me in the street, and ask for autographs, and think that I'm Mike," he added, noting that he is undergoing a strict training regimen to achieve the physical transformation to portray Tyson at the height of his career. "Every other day, I do 60 pull-ups, we do 60 dips, we do 100 push-ups," Foxx said, quipping, "I ain't got no calf muscles, so we might have to get some prosthetics for that." (The vocal transformation won't be a problem: Foxx also shows off a pitch-perfect Tyson impression in the episode.)

I hope this is really happening! Been waiting years for this!

This movie could either be really good or just be an In Living Color skit. Don’t half ass this Jamie, this is a Brooklyn heavyweight!

Wonder who’s gonna be Robin Givens.

That is really good casting. I wonder if they'll use CGI to de-age Foxx for when Tyson was in his prime. Foxx looks great for his age, but he can't really pass for a man in his 20's.

I remember him saying a few years ago he would be de-aged to portray him in his younger years

Jamie Foxx Bulks Up to Play Mike Tyson, Reveals 'Iron Mike' Physique!!

Foxx says he'll be 216 pounds when shooting begins (he starts as young Mike) -- and then to play Old Mike, he'll "balloon to 225, 230 which will look like 250 on screen."
