Miss Marple
, the elderly heroine of a dozen Agatha Christie novels, is set to return to the big screen, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The twelve original Marple novel began with "The Thirteen Problems", (the first chapter of which was released as a short story in 1927 and the novel itself published in 1930). The character, Jane Marple, has since appeared in film, television, stage and on the radio.

Details are few, but the article notes that Disney will modernize Miss Marple rather than go for a period approach and that the studio has hired Mark Frost ("Twin Peaks", Fantastic Four) to provide the screenplay.

They show this on PBS here in the States as part of "Masterpiece Mystery."

Oh damn. I just realized it's a couple days till April Fools.

Well... Garner IS getting up there in age. :o
No... Helen Mirren should play Marple!

Or Maggie Smith.
Or if they indeed want to go with a younger Marple, the Emma Thompson.

But Jennifer Garner? I don't know what they smoke at Disney Studios but it should be forbidden.

This is meant to be a 'modern spin' apparently.

This is bizarre. After I watched Murder On The Orient Express on Saturday night I did some wikipedia stuff and I came across this character. And a couple days later, a movie is announced.

But Garner as Murple? What the **** are they thinking? She's an old lady for **** sake.

Still...

It's not as bad of a miscast as Jennifer Garner playing Elektra...

Maggie Smith as Marple would be fantastic! And I feel like she'd do it.

Chris Egan playing Edgar Allen Poe...
Jennifer Garner playing Miss Marple...

What the **** is happening, exactly?

All we need now is Channing Tatum playing Albert Einstein.

And Alex Pettyfer as HP Lovecraft

First Diane Lane as Ma Kent, now Garner as Marple.

Apparently old ladies are now taboo in Hollywood. Unless you're Betty White.

Betty White's just a token. :o

One of the problems we have in the UK with Miss Marple is that every time we rightfully cast an elderly woman in the role.. she passes away after two or three stories...

MAYBE... they're going for a younger actress who they can make look older so they don't have to recast every few years/movies?

A movie with an old lady in the lead would most likely flop. They wouldn't probably even do it on TV anymore (remember Murder, She Wrote).

But this idea is ridiculous.

Good...this will keep Jennifer Garner out of good movies for a while.

Who in crikey **** is Miss Marple?
