Paramount Gives Josh Olson One Shot
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
September 25, 2008

Paramount has hired screenwriter Josh Olson (A History of Violence) to adapt the Lee Child suspense novel One Shot into a thriller, bringing child's character Jack Reacher to the big screen for the first time. In the novel, Racher, a former military man who has become a policeman contends with an ex-infantry specialist who was arrested for shooting five people.

In the Hollywood Reporter's story, Josh Olson is quoted as saying, "I had just finished watching the first two Dirty Harry movies on Blu-ray, and I thought, 'No one's making movies like that anymore.' It coincided perfectly. It's just the kind of movie that I haven't seen in a while. It's a tough, smart, action-oriented thriller."

The project is somewhat reminiscent of Mark Wahlberg's Shooter, released by Paramount in 2007, which was an adaptation of Stephen Hunter's "Point of Impact."

Olson also has a reinvention of Frank Baum's "Oz" series in development at Warner Bros.

My sister will be pleased. She LOVES the Jack Reacher novels, and at least twice a year for the last four years, she'll turn to me and be like, "If they ever make a movie based on one of the books, you know who'd be a great Jack Reacher? (Insert Actor Name Here)!!!"

finally!!!

i've read every Jack reacher book, they are all awesome, its a bit like 24 meets Dirty Harry. I would have chosen Echo Burning but One shot is just as amazing. God i hope this gets made, i've always wanted Clive Owen to play Jack, or maybe Thomas Jane.
