Mom Accidentally Runs Over 5-Year-Old

first a cop accidently shoots a kid in a boat while trying to kill a snake now a mom runs over her kid without even knowing it while trying to move the minivan?

how can you not feel the minivan run over a body and why the hell was she going fast enough to not see or feel herself run over her son when she was just moving the minivan??? are all these people inbred or something?

Hmmm:ninja:

The parents arent blaming the auto makers, they're just lobbying Congress to get the auto industry to try to change the visibility standards in minivans to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future. If you've ever had the misfortune of driving one of these things, it's next to impossible to see what's behind you.

read and comprehend.

LINDENHURST, N.Y. (AP) - A mother accidentally ran over her 5-year-old son as she moved her minivan to a different location outside her home, killing the boy, police said Monday.
Christine Schilling told police that after moving the vehicle at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, she discovered her 5-year-old son Jacob lying beneath its tire. The exact circumstances of the accident were not known.
The 1995 Chrysler minivan was impounded for a safety check, but no charges were filed, Suffolk County police said Monday.
Earlier this year, the Suffolk County Legislature voted to require auto dealers to distribute safety tips to buyers, warning them about the hazards of ``backovers.''
The parents of several Long Island children killed in backover accidents are also lobbying for legislation in Congress that would set minivan visibility standards, said Janette Fennell, founder of the Kansas-based Kids And Cars.org safety advocacy group.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates there are at least 183 backover fatalities annually; children 15 and younger accounted for 145 of those fatalities. The second-largest group were people older than 70.

unfortunately, this happens fairly often

tragic...and unfortunate. Hope theres no backlash...seems like just another accident to me.

I've ridden in minivans for 20 years, and driven them for 14 (since i got my licence). I've never had trouble, nor has my father with making sure we don't run anything over behind us.

Then you two are perfect drivers.....we should all strive to be as good....:cwink: but it is a proven fact that minivans have had several cases like this, and the lobby is strong to help in the area of "blind spots"....many of your newer cars, have detectors built in, hopefully the day will come when all cars have this device.

Mini vans do suck and are a pain to drive.
I think parents get so burned out from telling their kids the same **** everyday 7,000 times a day. I don't think parents realize when they're burned out or want to come to terms that they can't do it all and maybe just, maybe need a break and help raising their kid(s). It's not admitting defeat, kids are a ****ing handful.

This is just awful and oh my gosh I am so glad it never happened to me. That poor child, that poor mom, that poor family. I am so sorry for all of them. I see no point in pointing fingers because believe it or not crap can happen to anyone of us. There but for the grace of God go us all.

We have a minivan because of the convenience and space, but my wife complains of blind spots to the immediate sides. But for the low price of $4 at Target, we purchased blind spot mirrors and problem solved.

But it doesn't matter if there's a hundred blind spots. If you're too stupid to check the rear or side of the vehicle and account for every kid before you move, you shouldn't be driving or having kids.

when i was 6 i saw a 3 year old get run over.....

the 3 year old was in back of a car, and the car was backing out..The driver couldnt see her because she was so short... the car then knocked the little girl to the ground and then the driver started driving over her leg very slowly....it was horrible

Minivans don't kill...Women simply can't drive them.

Minivans don't kill...Women simply can't drive them.

That's very manly of you, and heterosexual.....you should be proud....

But it's true.

Actually, no its not. Simply do a google of traffic accident statistics, pretty much worldwide, and you will find that in most men almost 3 to 1 have more accidents than women. You can also find that in different TYPES of traffic accidents, men fair far worse than women.

Now mind you, yes men are in cars more than women on average, but statistics also show that this difference is getting less and less each year, yet the statistics for each are not changing in a significant manner.

So no, actually its not true. It is a myth, that is proven to be wrong, year after year. :yay:

The Moral of the Story...

If you have a family it actually ISN'T a good idea to buy a mini-van.

Women say "I have a husband and 2 kids...I need a minivan" My parent had 6 kids, they never bought a minivan or a stationwagon,4 door sedans all the way! Never had a problem.
