I must say, I really love Sub-Zero and Scorpion's new designs. Especially Scorpion. He looks a lot less over designed, and less like a character that would be right at home in a comic book. They went for something with more of an old-school flair.

Sub-Zero's top design actually reminds me of the concept art for the reboot.

And I'd actually love to have these designs as alternate costumes, or even DLC.

Worse comes to worse they could just say they cloned everyone who died and when they fought Shinnok to get the souls back they just dumped them into the new bodies. That could explain the old Subby showing up.

Those costume designs are pretty sweet though.

That was a lot at once. Random thoughts...

• Scorpion's looking very MK1, and Sub's looking very...fleshy. Another retelling, I take it.
• It's been said enough, but why not repeat the truth? Terrible choice of music. I have to mute it soon as I put it on replay. Khalifa is outdone, outwitted, and outmatched by just about any other competent rap artist. Wu-Tang, Tech N9ne...it's innumerable.
• Unreal Engine 4. It's. So. Pretty. Rub that ambient occlusion everywhere, please.
• (Yeah, I've braced for impact if the game doesn't look this good on eighth gen hardware.)
• Did I spy the return of running? That could only be good news; MK9 was in desperate need of velocity in its movement, and some animations with flow, while I'm at it.
• Interactables like Injustice...hmm. Cool to watch, hard to balance.
• X-rays on eight gen look so delicious. Not in a cannibalistic way, of course. Of course.
• There's so much swordplay I'm getting flashbacks to MK4. Maybe that's what they mean by different character versions? I hope not.
• Dat look of horror as Sub's life fades from his eyes.

I didn't like 9 as much as I thought I would, so I'm glad that this first look got me pumped. Can't wait for more at E3.

I'm kinda sad that this is being made for previous generation consoles. 2015 is going be basically 2008 in retrospect with new consoles. Were games one PS3/360 still being made for PS2/XB1?

I'm hoping them can still push the boundaries for graphics and stuff.

Yes, in regards to PS2. The Xbox got abandoned very early, because MS dropped as soon as the 360 came out, but there were games coming out for PS2 well after the PS3/360 were released. Especially the sports games.

Development costs are skyrocketing even for the big names. With so many studios shutting down recently and the middle tier market practically collapsing in favor of triple A or indie releases, it makes sense to buffer sales with seventh gen versions. So long as the quality doesn't suffer too much, it's all good with me.
