Mortal Kombat XI returns to its bloody roots - Part 2

I don't think that they will get one either. The great thing about Kratos is that he actually fits pretty well in the world of Mortal Kombat. Its not Darth Vader in Soul Calibre or a Halo Spartan in DOA. Kratos actually fits the world well. And I think that is why there is no 360 equivilant. Who does MS really have to put in Mortal Kombat? Master Chief (their obvious choice) would feel really out of place.

Someone like Marcus from Gears of War may work, but what does Marcus really have to offer when fighting guys who can spit fire and shoot ice?I suppose he would fit, if not for the fact that he'd basically be Stryker 2.0 (heavy weaponry instead of super powers or martial arts mastery).

But lets face it, that's really all that MS has to offer at this point. Two marquee characters. Neither of whom really work.

I agree. I think that the Mortal Kombat team put Kratos in the game simply because they really wanted to put in him in the game. Considering the kind of character Kratos is and how bloody God of War is, he actually fits perfectly in the game. It really has nothing out of loyalty to Sony or Sony paying for exclusive content, I think they just really wanted him in the game and if God of War were multiplatform, we'd see Kratos on the 360 version.

Even if Kratos wasn't in Mortal Kombat, I'd still get the PS3 version. Fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter tend to play better on the PS3 IMO over the 360, just like how shooters like Call of Duty tend to play better on the 360.

I disagree now that i have the new 360 controller with the redesigned d-pad. I feel its far better than the PS3's pad.

I find that hard to believe. Mostly because I think it's really hard to top the D-pads set by Sony and Nintendo. Mostly Nintendo, but still, hard to top.

Agreed. If it were a promotional tie in for Sony, its far more likely that we'd be seeing Nathan Drake as he is the one who has hype around him right now with the third Uncharted on its way.

I think what we're seeing here is a character who has helped define the past two generations of video games and just fits really well into the Mortal Kombat world so Boon and co. decided to put him in there. Microsoft just didn't have an equivilant in that regard.

Like I said, timed exclusive release of DLC is the most likely exclusive that 360 will get and that all comes down to how much money MS is willing to dish out. And considering the way the GTA "exclusive," DLC blew up in their faces, I'm guessing it won't be much. I don't anticipate MS will make a deal like that in the near future.

whoah...so besides the classic costume we also get the classic fatality? so if i were to order the game from Amazon, i would get the classic Reptile and his classic fatality as well? or is this just a Gamestop thing?

Kratos isn't in story mode though, he's ONLY in Versus... so, if they put Marcus or Master Chief in (they won't) it wouldn't have to "make sense" as the exclusive characters aren't story related.

I don't think they're getting a character but Boon tweeted that the 360 WILL be getting exclusive content.

I hate the 360 controller for fighters. The problem wasnt only the D-pad but its placement. Its too close to the face button's to feel effective. Having the D-pad on the left rather than the center of the controller feels alot more comfortable on the thumbs for all the inputs that need to be made

I don't think it was a matter for them of making sense in the story, but making sense in the world of MK. Kratos does and, like hippie hunter said, MC doesn't as much.

Like was said, it is the kind of character that he is that makes him fit into it as perfectly.

I had SSFVI for the 360... I used the sticks, managed to play it just fine. I just need another controller for other reasons... mainly because it fell off of my shelf and now has to stay plugged in.

I'd like to get one with a proper D pad though.

Eh, Cryax and Sektor are human cyborgs. Master Chief is a human with cybernetically enhanced battle armor. Doesn't seem to far fetched for him to fight alongside those guys, lol. Like I said though, he won't be in the game. I highly doubt Microsoft would be ok with his head being able to be ripped off... or burnt to a crisp, or knocked off a 300 foot bridge, ect.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a classic fighter of some kind that isn't in the PS3 version, or maybe a stage of some kind.

He has his own story in arcade mode, however. None the less, from a tone perspective Master Chief or Marcus bring nothing to the table. Marcus is essentially Stryker or Jax. As for Master Chief, he just doesn't fit all that well.

What Boon says and what Boon does are often two different things. Honestly, the only person in the industry who talks out of his ass more than Boon is Peter Molyneux. Hell, the only real differences to the time line based on the leaked scripts taken from the hacked demo are:

Cyber Sub-Zero, human Smoke, and Raiden lets Shao Kahn win Mortal Kombat 3 because it lets the Elder Gods kill him or some such nonsense.

Aside from that, apparently a few main characters "die," in story mode....but its Mortal Kombat. A soap opera or comic book death is more likely to stick than a Mortal Kombat death.

None of this stuff is really as Earth shattering as Boon promised by shaking up the continuity. In fact, it is basically the most predictable stuff possible. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the game but anyone expecting a lot of changes will be sorely disappointed due to the fact that Boon oversold it (Molyneux syndrome strikes again!). Its basically a straight remake of MK 1-3 with some minor changes.

My point is, Boon says a lot of things. About 50 % of what he says comes to fruition and only about 50 % of that comes to fruition in the way that he initially describes it.

Sonys dpad really was never that good to begin with, better than the 360s but not that good. With the new 360 dpad, it's better than anything offered outside of a fighting pad.

...Or maybe MK I-III on the disk! That'd be awesome. :)

If that were the case, it would've been revealed by now. Do you really think Microsoft would sit on something that could tilt sales in their favor? Hell, if MK I-III were on the disc, I'd be buying the 360 version for that over Kratos any day. Kratos has been a known factor for about a year. Why? Because it will increase the sales of the PS3 version. If MS had some awesome exclusive content, they would've announced it prior to a month until release.

Did I just spoil myself there with the "script leak" part? DANG IT!

Don't beat yourself up too much. The stuff in the tags aren't that big of a deal. I mean, most of the stuff I tagged was already known aside from the ending, which was to be expected anyway.

We still have a little less than a month until the games release so yeah, I could totally see Microsoft setting on things until close to launch. I don't see Kratos as some HUGE selling point... I know many, many gamers who don't play or have played and hated God of War (mostly DMC fans)...

I think MS is going to get something Sony will not. What? I have no idea I can only speculate, but they'll get something.

Yea I agree the placement is better on the ps3s pad for fighters, but microsofts new d pad is better than the ps3s, regardless of placement. It's not nearly as bad as trying to use Sonys analog sticks witha fps, now that's bad placement

Didn't someone say the 360 was getting something, not a character but something?

"Setting on it until close to launch," makes no sense. Most fans are pre-ordering due to the pre-order exclusives (which have been heavily advertised). Your view is honestly a bit naive. There is no reason for MS to hide their exclusive content. It only hurts sales. Its like Gamestop waiting until a week before release to say, "By the way, you get a Scorpion costume and fatality if you pre-order here." By that point Amazon on and Wal-Mart would have gotten all of the pre-orders.

And Kratos is a huge selling point. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

I got the new 360 controller as well. The d-pad feels much better, although I haven't tried any fighting games yet. I don't like the PS3 controller at all though.

Anyway...

Anyone else getting the Collector's Edition Guide? I'm getting it for the extra stuff it offers, but I'm sure I'll also check some of the guiding parts. Especially if they don't label stuff in the Krypt. I wouldn't want to waste coins unlocking stuff I didn't want, although it was kind fun not knowing what you'll unlock.

preordering from amazon gets you the reptile costume and klassic fatality, same with gamestop and bestbuy, except they get scorpions and sub's respectively

I think believing that the 360 version will get NOTHING is a bit goofy, more so when Boon said they will. Sure you can say "We Boon says a lot of things" well.. Why would be BS that? In the end I could careless, seriously. I can tell you right now I'd never play as Kratos, ever. I'd probably never play as the 360 exclusive character if it wasn't MK related... the whole cross over fighter thing was stupid when Soul Caliber did it with Vader and Yoda and I don't really care for it now. I'm just saying I believe the 360 WILL get something.

The majority of my friends will have the 360 version... that's a huge selling point for me.

I'm sure they'll be tossed a bone, but at best it will be an extra stage or something along those lines. If they had anything major (a character, disc based MK I-III as you suggested, etc) it would be heavily advertised by this point to boost pre-orders.
