After watching Kingdom of Heaven: Director's Cut last night, seeing how much was cut from that great film made me think of a couple other films I'd like to see get their rightful second chance with an extended cut in the near-future:

+The Crow: City of Angels - Never have I wanted an extended cut for a film as badly as I wanted an extended cut for this hugely underrated sequel. This film has beautiful cinematography, a great score/soundtrack and a number of colourful and underrated performances. The film was butchered to no end by the Weinsteins, who wanted the film to be exactly like the original in order to become a box-office hit, but it flopped because the editing was incoherent and the story was too underdeveloped to even hold a candle to the original (though the third act was significantly better than the original's IMO). There was a whole love story, between Ashe and Sarah (an older version of the girl from the first film), that was cut from the film that would have led to a much more tragic and devastating ending. I loved how the script and paperback played with the notion of having a man come back from the dead only to fall in love and question his true reason for coming back in the first place, it's a bold idea that would have expanded on the original and it makes the character of Ashe more relatable in the end. Here's what has been omitted from the film.

+Prometheus - Do I even need to elaborate on this? This is an obvious choice, IMO, because Ridley Scott's director's cuts have all been better than the original cuts. There's so much depth and talent within this film that a 3 hour extended cut is very much deserved.

So far, those are the only two I can think of. Which film(s) do you guys think deserve extended cuts as well?

Spider-Man 3, There is lots of footage that didn't make the DVD & Bluray so it would have at least been nice to have seen how much different it could have been.

That's for sure. I always found it funny how the most critically-praised entry in the series, Spider-Man 2, got an extended cut but not the first or third (arguably both deserve extended cuts more so than the second). Not to mention, the second's my least favourite of the series (so the extended cut did nothing for me). I want to see more of Topher Grace's Brock character, I think there's a good performance in there that was untapped in the film itself because there were so many other elements to balance along with it. Cut some of the ridiculousness out and I think that Spider-Man 3 could be a potentially great film.

The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World.

Good call. The studio made the wrong call on going against Norton's wishes, he would have been excellent in The Avengers if they had went with his cut of The Incredible Hulk instead (and it would have been a much better film too because the deleted scenes that I've seen are all really great and well-acted too).

The Dark Knight. I find it so insane that Nolan won't let any other footage out. I wanna see other takes of Ledger god damn it.

I agree. Nolan thinks he's some holy angel with making movies, but not every director is perfect (I hated Insomnia personally) and fans of the trilogy deserve to see that extra footage (especially since we have to wait another 2 years before we see Batman on-screen again). The extended hospital explosion deleted scene, with The Joker riding on the bus not even looking at the explosion, was excellent to say the least.

When I first saw the thread, the first movie that came to mind was The Incredible Hulk. Criminally underrated and I hate using that term. I hope that one day, we get to see an extended cut because the deleted scenes are glorious. Banner and General Ross get fleshed out much more. The alternate opening when Banner tries to commit suicide as well as the dialogue between Banner and Samson that was in the teaser would have been great additions.

The Dark Knight Rises, for me. I'd like to see Bane's training. I can even tell where it slots into the theatrical cut. More of Bane's revolution, too, though I don't think any of that was cut post-filming.

I have to imagine TDKR is my #1.

My second would be Green Lantern.

No way it was THAT bad.

^Yes, it was. One hour of new scenes wouldn't have saved that horse s***.

The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Some people think Blake was in TDKR too much, but considering how it ends, I wouldn't have minded he and Bruce/Batman interacting more and Bruce teaching him some stuff here and there apart from just the "wear a mask" thing.

Prometheus comes to mind.

Elysium really needed more developed.

I want to the long rumored 3 hour cut of Harry Potter & the Order of the Pheonix.

That'd be a great one. I'd also love to see an extended cut for the Half-Blood Prince as well, especially if they add this scene back in:

They had a similar shot of Snape at the beginning of Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, so it would have been nice to have seen this scene still included in the film (since the one from Pt. 2 is a callback of sorts).

I would love to see an official cut of Superman II with the best available material from both Lester and Donner.

Honestly, I don't think it'd be much better. The ending for both is lackluster. Donner's due to it being the Earth thing (that ended up being refilmed and used in S:TM) and the Lester Cut's stupid kiss scene. No good options there. Overall, Superman II is a movie that had greatness in it, but the Salkinds killed it when Donner wasn't allowed to finish filming his stuff.

The deleted material for TIH is available, though. Technically, someone with an editing program could just paste those scenes back in. It's easy to spot where they would have gone.

Spider-Man 3 is my top choice as well. So much cut/alternate footage. It'd be a much different movie!

Honestly, I'd settle for the Lester Cut with the Marlon Brando scenes put back in. The kissing scene wasn't that bad.

Eh. I disagree. It makes no logical sense on any level and it is another example of poor cornball humor that didn't work in the movie. Lester's cut had a lot of that type of stuff I feel falls flat. Donner took the material far more seriously, and it made the movie better. The climax of Donner's is better. Destroying the Fortress was emotional. The Brando scenes are excellent. But, if you just insert that stuff with Lester's goofyness, I feel you just get an uneven film.

The Wolf of Wall Street is currently at the top of my list. I'd gladly sit through that 4+ hour cut

Yeah, was really curious on all the Alternate and deleted scenes from the film. Feel there was alot of Sandman cut that could have helped balance the storyline, like the sandcastle part. Think there was alot with Brocks relationship with Gwen as well.

A good number of those deleted scenes would have helped the film out quite a bit. Even though I felt there was too much humor in IM3 and Thor 2, TIH is still my least favorite Marvel Studios film. It's funny that I got the action I felt was missing from Ang Lee's Hulk film but TIH lacked a bit of heart.

After seeing Avengers I wished that attempted suicide scene was part of the film even more than before. Although they changed actors, Banner in the Avengers references that scene.

As for the fans complaining about The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. I thought it was commonly known that Nolan mainly films what he actually wants in the film. Meaning, he cuts out any of the fat in the final script stage. I do know that there is that scene of the Joker riding the bus when the hospital goes up and that pic during the virals of him in the back of the car, which I believe was his getaway from Bruce's penthouse attack. Also, in the trailer they had a shot of the Tumbler driving in Bruce's bunker. Other than those few things, I don't think there was much else to add to the movies that would have been worthwhile that he had actually filmed. Don't get me wrong, I love Nolan's films despite the conveniances in TDK and TDKR but sadly, he just didn't have a lot of important or long scenes that were filmed and cut.

I'd like to see 3.1 as well. Even if the deleted scenes were made available on another release. Won't hold my breath, though. :csad:
