Movies That Deserve Extended Cuts

I really want to see the extended version of Kingdom of Heaven, but it is only available on Blue Ray and I am not set up for that, and my television cannot be set up unless it has an HDMI connection which it doesn't. Apparently the Director's Cut is nearly an hour longer! I understand that a lot of the Blue Ray titles have quite a bit more extra material also.

Prometheus immediately comes to mind. I would love an extended cut.

I agree. Nolan thinks he's some holy angel with making movies, but not every director is perfect (I hated Insomnia personally) and fans of the trilogy deserve to see that extra footage (especially since we have to wait another 2 years before we see Batman on-screen again). The extended hospital explosion deleted scene, with The Joker riding on the bus not even looking at the explosion, was excellent to say the least.

See, I've never once seen any extra footage from TDK or TDkR. It drives me ****ing crazy too. Man of Steel could have definitely used more development as well

A Scanner Darkly. There could have been more added in many places.

The Cell, sorry but I needa see more ****ed up dreamscapes in Do'Nofrio's mind.

The Last Mimzy, greatest family film ever and I just want it to be longer. It's perfect, absolutely perfect but I just want more.

Wish Spider-Man 2 had had more than just the 2 big Spidey vs Ock fights.

The extended cut is on DVD. And actually in this case the DVD has all the special features. The bluray had none. Here is a link to it on Amazon. Enjoy!:) It's well worth buying. The extended cut is without doubt one of Ridley Scott's greatest films. The theatrical cut was all Tom Rothman's doing and a complete hatchet job.

I bet there's a version of Jack Reacher that's only moments longer and would be R-rated. I wanna see that movie.

I'd like to see the anti-extended edition of The Hobbit where they turned it back into just two movies.

I disagree on Man of Steel needing more development, I thought it was perfect as it was, though I would certainly love to see an extended version (as Zack Snyder's extended cuts for Watchmen were really great; if the extended cut could have the film go in chronological order this time then that would be fantastic, I personally would love to see more of Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe's scenes as well).

I agree with this. An anti-extended edition for Return of the King would be fantastic too (they need to trim some of the fat off with that terribly long ending IMO).

Yea I don't feel that way at all. I love MOS but IMO it is a very flawed movie and some characters could have been given more development

I think the film more so portrays characters who have flaws, especially Kevin Costner's character. I don't think the film has many flaws besides the beliefs within the minds of some characters (especially Kevin Costner's). His message to Clark, to keep his identity safe by any means, is a noble one, but it's also one that [BLACKOUT]cost him his life in the end and it's a message that haunts Clark (keeping him from reaching his full potential).[/BLACKOUT] I thought these kind of flaws made the story more interesting than your ordinary superhero film because it leaves our main character, Kal-El, with a genuine moral dilemma, I thought that the scene with the priest displayed this conflict perfectly. Also, the line Superman uses, just before he [BLACKOUT]destroys Zod's ship, "Krypton had it's chance", is a powerful release emotionally, musically and visually[/BLACKOUT] (I think that scene might just be my favourite part from the whole film, but the entire last hour is really my cup of tea, never have I had that much fun at the cinema in a while, I thought the film delivered on all fronts).

I've seen the scene where Reacher breaks Charlie's neck with his boot. Pretty sure that wasn't the only ultra violent one. And I heard they might shoot for an R rating for the sequel.

I'd love to see extended, unrated cuts for (arguably) the two worst X-Men films (X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine). I remember listening to the director/writers commentary for The Last Stand and Brett Ratner (I believe) at one point mentions how the film originally did have an R-rating (mostly because of the Dark Phoenix bits), I'd love to see that footage restored because, while it isn't the best X-Men film, it is still a very good and entertaining film that generates true suspense in all of the Dark Phoenix sequences (especially at the house, the action between the X-Men and the Brotherhood mixed-in with Charles and Erik trying to earn Jean's trust was truly suspenseful filmmaking IMO). With X-Men Origins, I'd love to see them restore that (rumoured) Deadpool after-credits scene especially and, of course, make it R-rated. I hated watching the action scenes in it because it's all stab-stab and no blood or realism whatsoever (which takes away the tension because you know the characters can't die). I believe it could have been a great film, but the studio butchered it and it definitely deserves an alternate cut, especially if they're planning on making a Deadpool movie based off of Ryan Reynolds performance (for which I'd recommend they hire Seth MacFarlane for the job since Ted ended up being a bonafide success and, even though he rarely features them, the action sequences he directs on Family Guy, especially the chicken fights, are hilarious and attention-grabbing all in the same boat, plus Ryan Reynolds even cameoed in Ted too).

I'd like to see Thor TDW get an extended cut with all of the actual interesting character scenes put back in. You know, the stuff that actually means something.

Minus all of the irritating Darcy/intern scenes would be great too, give us more Asgard, Kurse, Loki and Malekith instead.

I'm glad that the attempted suicide was cut, i didn't like the fact that the Hulk was the reason Captain America was discovered, feels like too small a world

The Hulk/Cap discovery scene made sense when they filmed it. They didn't expect Iron Man to blow the roof off of everything. After that they didn't need to play it "safe" in the regard of making the world connect together coincidentally. But if I could watch an extended cut of TIH with that scene in it I'd love it

Please no, i don't need that type of tasteless mysoginy in my Deadpool :o

I just think it's too big of a coincidence. I prefer the idea that he was accidentally discovered by somebody else or that SHIELD has been trying to find the remains of him or the cube.

So many, Prometheus, Spiderman 3, TIH and Thor :TDW all need them.

And though its a long movie anyway, I'd like to see the EE of Superman Returns with the deleted scenes and the RTK sequence thrown back in.

Here's my list:

* Terminator Salvation. Not really an extended cut, more the original cut with the Project Angel stuff and more hybrids, the alternate ending. I don't think it will be a better movie, but I'm just interested in seeing it.

* Spider-Man 3. So much footage that didn't end up in the final cut and could improve the movie for the better.

* Prometheus. The final product was such a let down.

* The Thing (2011), with the original pilot stuff etc. Also perhaps with the animatronic versions and the CGI special effects turned down a bit.

* Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Just because I'm a Terminator fan.

Les Miserables (2012). Some of the songs were really truncated and a lot of the scene transitions are too quick, it feels choppy. I'd like to see it at least get put back to its original 2:45 runtime from the current 2:36.

So are we just wishing or are we going based off films we KNOW had a lot of cut footage?

I think The Dark Knight Rises split into two films would have been great. Man Of Steel needed way more development, so a three hour cut of that would have probably been pretty good. I'd like to see PTA's original cut of The Master that was shown at festivals before the theatrical release.

For the most part though, most deleted scenes were deleted for a reason. Boogie Nights has tons of GREAT deleted footage, but it doesn't really fit well into the film. It's possible to have good, even great material cut from the film, but that doesn't mean it fits into the film.

The Dark Knight Rises - I would love to see more Bane from the movie
Captain America - I would love to have more Red Skull and Bucky scenes
