I was just thinking about the whole "Mustachegate" thing and how not being able to shave Henry Cavill's Mission Impossible mustache impacted the reshoots of Justice League. I was wondering about some other incidents like this, where the production of one movie dramatically impacted the production of another.

Another example I can think of also has to do with the Mission Impossible franchise. Dougray Scott was originally cast as Wolverine in Singer's X-Men film but had to drop out because shoots for M:I2 took longer than expected. Just imagine the world we'd be living in right now without Hugh Jackman. Something tells me Scott's Wolverine wouldn't have been as well received.

How about some others?

Jodorowsky's Dune.

/thread

Hugh Jackman would have been the Phantom of the Opera instead of Gerard Butler if Hugh wasn't busy making Van Helsing.

What a waste: Phantom could have been much better with Hugh in the title role, but instead we got two bad movies out of it.

Oh, man. That is tragic. Butler was the worst part of Phantom. The production design was actually pretty good but you need a Phantom who can sing. Man, aside from 300, Butler sucks in just about everything.

And Van Helsing was trash.

I don't know the story behind Jodorowsky's Dune.

A pretty famous example of a tv show instead of a film, but Pierce Brosnan would have been James Bond in The Living Daylights had Remington Steele not been surprisingly renewed at the last minute.

A few years earlier James Brolin was set to be Bond in Octopussy until Sean Connery came back in Never Say Never Again at which point Eon backed an armored van up to Roger Moore's house to get him to stay.

A similar example is that Tom Selleck was supposed to play Indiana Jones, but couldn't because of Magnum

Whoa what? We almost had an American James Bond?

I always thought NBC did that on purpose.

A big one would be that Dougray Scott would have been Wolverine instead of Hugh Jackman, if not for the delays on shooting MI:II.

How a few weeks change a film career, or two, in this case.

Wasn't Emily Blunt cast as Iron Man 2 but had to drop because she had to film Gulliver's Travels

Hey, don't dis Gerard Butler! He's often the last hope we got!

:oldrazz:

:hehe:

I think that if I was faced with either dying or being saved by Gerard Butler, I'd choose death.

"I want to speak with Sam Rockwell, Gerard Butler, Joe Mangianello, and Thomas Jane. And set up a press conference. In that order."

I don't know the story behind Jodorowsky's Dune.

There's a very tedious documentary on it if you're ever interested. :funny:

Rachelle Lefevre got booted from the Twilight franchise because she had, I want to say a 1-2 week interference with another film she was working on. She got replaced with Brice Dallas Howard.

FTFY.

The short story is that a couple of sci-fi classics spawned out of its failed production, given that the many artists who were involved continued to collaborate for years to come.

Yeah. Oops.

I remember reading the Bill Murray was either Tim Burton's or WB's first choice to play Batman in the 1989 film. Dodged a bullet there.

The Coens passed on Batman ‘89. We got Miller’s Crossing instead. Job well done.

Wow, I never heard about that one. Now I'm just trying to imagine a Cohen Brothers Batman movie.

Yep. They also considered it for Diamonds Are Forever, but didn't get as far along as with Octopussy. The first version of Casino Royale (not by Eon) swaps Bond and Leiter so that Bond is the American and Leiter the Brit.

Superman Returns and X-Men The Last Stand
the OG "mustachegate"

Well one I can remember was Dougray Scott was supposed to be Wolverine in X men but shooting ran long on Mission Impossible 2.

Yeah, I remember that one. I actually think we would've gotten a good Indiana Jones with Tom Selleck too.

I think she chose GT over MCU not a 'couldn't film' situation as far as I can remember during the story of that decision.

What a waste! Hugh Jackman would've been a better Phantom. But then again having Joel Schumacher directing Phantom of the Opera didn't help matters. I didn't like the decision to have the actors even singing the conversational bits. They should've went the Sound of Music route.
