MTV is developing a remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, reports Variety.

Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

The new version will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

The director and casting decisions have yet to be announced. The original starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.

Ive never seen the original but i imagine this news will be met with great anger lol.

Is nothing sacred anymore?! :cmad:

I love the original to pieces, it's my favorite musical, but I would have welcomed a remake with open arms, but this is a TV movie from MTV. And that just doesn't sit right with me. :(

i tried to watch the original and just couldn't get into it... i hated it, really, truly, i did. i guess it's just not my thing.

i even got dragged to a show at a local theater, with everyone telling me "you have to see it with a crowd!!! WOOT!" and yeah, that sucked even worse... a bunch or homosexuals (not that there's anything wrong with that) and drag queens yelling and screaming nonsense and singing along and throwing crap all over the place...

yeah, that's what i want when i go to the movies.

so, what i'm really trying to say is: i have no idea why this is considered even a cult classic. i won't say it sucks, because admittedly, musicals are not my thing. i will just say that mtv can have this one for all i care. do whatever you want with it. i may rent it on dvd someday.

Not the biggest fan of it but I can appreciate it for what it is. But Mtv has no business remaking this one of a kind musical.

God dammit MTV! I love this movie! And now they are going to take it and make a low budget made for tv movie featuring THE SAME SCRIPT?!?! (That cheap. huh?). It will probably feature the latest pop sensations in its cast. :down

Can nothing be left alone anymore!?!?!?! :cmad:

MTV is remaking this? A movie that is considered by many to be a classic? Is this really a smart move, MTV? I mean, do people not hate you enough for turning your "Music Television" into crappy reality tv central?

Whats next? Disney remaking The Godfather with Zac Efron as Michael Corleone?

So they're just reshooting the origin script. I mean, I guess that deals with the problem of it being a crappy remake; then again who wants to see a movie remade exactly the same...kind of defeats the purpose.

who cares... let them mess it up.

the original will exist forever.....

This is along the same lines as Donnie Darko getting a sequel. It's pointless and makes no sense!

That's pretty much my entire feeling on remakes. Bt, just sometimes studios go to far. I mean, this movie is considered, by many, a classic. Why even mess with that?

Plus, MTV sucks.

Double post.

Triple post. Sorry.

That just adds fuel to the fire. Of all people to even do a remake, it had to be MTV? :whatever:

yes i know.. if they remade killbill id be pretty boiled up. But it'd just be a fart in the wind in the end..lol

Thing is, if you're going to remake something, why not go all out and try to do it better? Not use the SAME script on a made-for-TV budget.

I agree. If you're going to make a movie that will probably fail, at least go out in a blaze of glory. Dont go out with a whimper.

I had some additional thoughts on this after I logged out last night.

1.) Comingsoon.net has this listed under movie news and not TV news. Maybe it's going to theaters anyways? Still doesn't really help with MTV behind it. Or the fact that a television studio is working on it?

2.) How the hell are they going to make this for television? They are going to have to heavily edit this. There's a reason you don't see Rocky Horror on television on non-premimum channels (and then I've never seen it there either). It's because it's a musical heavily drenched with and dealing with sex. Lots of it. It's a god damn plot point. Frank N Furter is addicted to sex. Of all kinds. Gay, straight. He's a god damn transvestite for god's sake. There is no way they can remake this movie for television and not change it entirely.

MTV is a waste of air space and has been since they quit playing videos.

This is an awful idea. I've never seen the movie in the theater, but I did see the stage version when it was on Broadway a few years ago (and loved it). At the show they sold a goody bag of props for the audience participation, and people just ate it up. I'm guessing MTV is going to go for something similar to make it as interactive as possible...but why not just show the original? :whatever:

And just like the joker says.

"Here we go"

With the Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo and everything else everyone on the net they see when they see remake news.:oldrazz::o
