Which in your opinion are the movies that are must-haves on Blu-ray?

Star Wars saga

Indiana Jones films

Back To The Future Trilogy

Star Trek films (non remakes)

2001 is a simply stunning HD transfer.
Not a fan of the movie but have it in my collection as it looks simply stunning.

I tend not to re-buy what I have on DVD unless it is essential to a collection, and now just buy blu ray on new films I want to buy.

For me, its the films that define my own life's experience of film that are 'must have', I think it's older films that benefit from blu ray, in that we see them in a new light.

Robocop special edition was the first blu-ray I bought and it is still the best, for a film that old its an impressive transfer.

You should pick up the new transfer released January of last year. Great picture quality.

Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut.

This!

The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition is a must too!

I would imagine the LOTR extended editions are on a lot of peoples list.

Alien is definitely the first film that came to my mind, the transfer is stunning considering the age.

I used to think the movie was grainy until the blu ray

Ghostbusters 2pk is a stunning transfer with some awesome never before released special features. Sadly there's still a chunk of GB2 deleted scenes missing.

One thing I'd like to put forth in this discussion, is that a lot of films are getting amazing upgrades today that while not essential to most, may be a very wanted film by some. An example from recent memory is this week they released a Blu Ray with a slew of new special features and a great transfer of "The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf". Now besides Christopher Lee being fantastic as ever, it's a terrible film with mostly terrible acting and some of the worst effects. And while I am a horror fan, this release isn't for me but it'll sell like crazy to a select group.

In regards to just DVD vs blu-ray, pretty much anything by Pixar. Watching them in anything other than HD does them a disservice.

Star Wars, Indy, Bond, Jurassic Park, the big franchises.

Oh hell yeah to those and adding to my previous list:

E.T.

Superman: Christopher Reeve films

Batman films

LOTR extended cuts

Jaws

Saving Private Ryan

The Aliens bluray that came out a few years ago finally fixed a lot of color grading issues most home video releases had for decades.

Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut.

just got from AMZ for $5

are you looking for good movies, or ones that look good on bluray?

some of the staples are:

Avatar
Gravity
Pacific Rim
Jurassic Park
Transformers 2 (eh lol)

The blu-rays that impress me the most are those of older movies. When the transfer has been well cared for, the blu-ray is a revelation. 2001 has been mentioned but also Lawrence of Arabia is a must have too.

The entire Planet of the Apes series is an impressive transfer too. They all look incredible!

Agreed. The original Tron looks utterly fantastic in blu-ray.
