My speakers barely work, I've had to swap mouse buttons due to the left breaking, my usb ports keep dying and now my keyboard died so I have to type using on-screen keyboard.

When my keyboard first died I tried the usual scans and reboot, then device manager un/reinstall and eventually tried a system restore and that flat out killed it so bad it wouldn't even boot into safe mode.

So yeah, borrowing a friends usb keyboard and hoping it holds together until I can buy a new one. Any ideas about the keyboard besides a hardware swap?

It's most likely the keyboard, so you could always buy a new keyboard and install it yourself. It's becoming a hassle depending on the manufacturer to do things like this, but worth it if you have patience.

What's your budget? I'd say it's time to get a new laptop and stop clinging to this one. Backup your files if you already haven't because this one is on it's last legs and it's a pain to recover data if the drive fries because of the motherboard.

AND FOR SOME REASON THE KEYBOARD IS WORKING AGAIN!

WTF!!!?!?!?!!!?!?!!?

I love and hate this thing with a passion because things will break and fix themselves with no warning. You have no idea how long it took me to originally type that post using the onscreen keyboard. So 8 hours trying to fix it with no success and only making things worse and it just fixes itself.

As for buying a new one I don't have a job so my current budget for a new laptop is around $0. :p I've been applying to jobs for months now and I'm going fairly nuts.

And as a further update, if I hit Num Lock then the entire keyboard shuts down including num lock so I need On-Screen Keyboard to turn it off again. This is weird.

With laptops the connecters are very small and brittle. They can easily be knocked loose and become not seated properly. I would look into how to take the thing apart and reseat the little ZIF connector.

Not to hijack the thread, but how can I stop my Macbook from disconnecting from the router/wi-fi...almost every time I power on, I'm disconnected and have to set the MacBook back up?
