My random photography thread.

Went to an air show and took about 500 pics. Here are some, post-processed to slightly resemble World War 2 era:

An Army officer stands guard.

airborne.jpg

The patch of the 101st Airborne Division, or as they were called, the "Screaming Eagles".

motorpool.jpg

Some "Willy" Jeeps and a "half track". The Half-track M3 was an armoured vehicle used by the United States and its allies during World War II and the Cold War.

medjeep.jpg

The M422 'Mighty Mite' jeep was designed by the Mid-American Research Corporation (MARCO), as a light weight ¼-ton 4x4 tactical truck, suitable for airlifting and manhandling. It is a variation of the popular and iconic "Willy" Army jeep.

The North American P-51 Mustang was an American long-range single-seat fighter aircraft that entered service with Allied air forces in the middle years of World War II. The P-51 became one of the conflict's most successful and recognizable aircraft.

Some German planes.

mg34.jpg

Maschinengewehr 34, or MG 34, was a German machine gun that was first produced and accepted for service in 1934, and first issued to units in 1935. It was an air-cooled machine gun firing 7.92 mm Mauser rounds and had similar performance to other medium machine guns.

The C96, or Broomhandle Mauser, was the first semi-automatic pistol to see widespread use. It was manufactured from 1896 to 1936 in Germany.

awesome :)
do you have any with a "retorn to castle wolfenstein" mood to them?

Hopefully I'll be able to go somewhere soon. Most of these pics are taken around the house because a) I am trying to learn my camera and b) I haven't been able to go anywhere where there are lots of photo opportunities.

Nothing's wrong with that. My Photography teacher would have us pick one spot and then take a while roll of pictures, it was an exercise in 'finding' shots.

I'm not an expert in photograph, though a few of your shots left me wondering what the theme/focus/object of the picture was. Others are very, very, very good.

Are all of these unprocessed?

also, what's the shutter speed on this one? and, at that speed, with couds,( i noticed some in the other pics) how is the picture so bright?

First, I made them black and white.

I also did do some processing on them to make them feel more era-like, which mostly involving mucking with the brightness/contrast.

The top pic I added the planes to the top, and I also had to remove some dummy's NASCAR hat that was laying on the white bench. But that's really the only manipulation I did if you don't including brightness/contrast adjustments.

As far as the brightness, although it was overcast, the lighting was pretty good. I had the shutter speed too high IMO, which made the plane props look "still", which I did not like. I keep my camera on auto a lot (which it does fine with) so it was the default shutter speed. Later, I slowed it down so that the props could not be seen, and instead they would be blurry which would convey motion better IMO.

Thank you!

There wasn't too much of a theme. We went to an airshow with a lot of stuff. The majority of the good pics are going to be posted in our local paper's online site, and it certainly had a theme, so these are the leftovers that weren't used. I decided to post them because I like WW2 era stuff.

Also, since its about two days until the anniversary of one of the most important events of World War 2, I felt this would tie in nicely.
