I haven't used the scanner in a few months . . . and I've had my computer completely unconnected for at least a month . . . I went to scan some artwork yesterday after I hooked everything back up, and the scanner will only scan in harsh black & white . . .

I've tried adjusting the settings, yadda, yadda, and resetting all the tools, etc., but all to no avail.

I'm SCREWED w/o my scanner :( has anyone ever had this experience and/or would anyone be able to provide input on whether I may be able to get the scanner fixed? It's a pretty nice HP scanner :(

ps . . . I think my great nephew may have pulled it off my computer desk one day, which pry trashed it :wow:

I have a scanjet 4400c and sometimes it scans in black and white but if you just change the setting back to true colour it goes in colour. I very much doubt un pluging it and hooking it back up would make it scan just in black and white. Now dropping off a desk, THAT will **** it up :) Normaly if they go you dont get anything or blockly bits of the scan

thanks dude  I will try to mess w/ it some more, but it looks pretty bad at this point . . . if I try to scan a photo, the photo just comes up as a black square . . .

Is the bulb even coming on? Sounds like a problem with your bulb. Sometimes they can be fixed, sometimes they can't. I had a pretty spendy ScanJet 5300c I think it was. The bulb burned out in it. Guess what? Disposable scanner. I was not a happy camper.
