As we saw at the end of the film, the story of how Leonidas and the brave 300 sacrificed themselves for freedom went from greek to greek, each one telling the other of how bad@$$ and brave and cool leonidas and his 300 were. they were, despite (because of) their deaths, celebrities, heroes, gods. They say the number 300 was probably exxagerated to make them seem even more heroic.
Zack Snyder told america the story too, making them seem bad@$$ and brave and cool. He exxaggerated some things just as the spartans did, and some things stuck. (The begining of the movie seeing leonidas as a kid is almost straight outta my school textbook.) He used cinematography, costumes, head-banging-inducing score, and script to tell us about leonidas and the brave 300 just as the spartans did, he just had to adjust some things the way the spartans did. no ***** they didnt wear capes and brown diapers, but it gives us the feeling of how cool the spartans were to greece. ANd havent the spartans become pop clture heroes just like they did back in ancient greece? dont we get a rush out of saying "tonight we dine in hell" or "this is sparta!!!"? WHen that movie came out, people who were like one 36th greek were like "Leonidas is my ancestor, bi-otch" I think the story of the 300 spatans lives on in a really unique way thanks to this movie.
