Hi. Does anybody know in which issues that both The Vulture and Mysterio had their real names revealed for the first time?

And also in what issue it was that Mysterio's involvement with the Tinkerer in ASM #2 was mentioned?

The Vulture's given name of Adrian Toomes was finally revealed in ASM #240... (1983 by Roger Stern)

Mysterio's involvement with the aliens/Tinkerer from ASM #2 was first brought to our attention is Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man #51... (1981 by (again) Roger Stern)

I'm not really sure about Quentin Beck's first mention of that name... I'll get back to you...

:yay:

The only thing I can find as far as Quentin Beck's first mention as the name behind the original Mysterio is in Webspinners #1 to 3 (1999 by J.M. Dematteis), but I find that hard to believe that we'd wait that long for his name...

But I see no mention in any of his 60's appearances, as well as the Danny Berhart appearance only mentions "Mysterio" as his ally... I thought for sure that the name Quentin Beck would have surfaced in PP:SSM #50 & 51, as they really get into his early appearances in that book, but I don't see the name... I should read it again more carefully...

:o

Interesting isn't it! All those years people were reading about Spidey's battles with these characters without ever knowing their given names!

Thanks for the Vulture info, i'm going to see if I can't track down a copy of that issue on eBay. I'm going to start doing some digging on Mysterio myself too.

In the meantime though, I don't suppose you know the first time that Kraven and The Chameleon were named do you? Aswell as their relation to eachother? I know that The Chameleon appeared in Kraven's first issue. But in that issue he merely refers to the Hunter as his "friend".

I can't recall myself, so I'll just cheat and use spider-fan.org :oldrazz:

This first part would probably be ASM 389, which would show the past of Chameleon and Kraven (unaware that he is Kraven's half-brother still).
When his returned parents (who Peter learned to love) were revealed as robots, he went berserk, and hunted the Chameleon. In their final confrontation, Dmitri's repressed memories of childhood beatings flooded his mind. He had been tortured by Sergei and his father, both of whom had treated him as more of a servant than a family member. Dmitri didn't love his "friend" Sergei--he hated him!

Then next would be the Identity Crisis arc, from Spectacular Spider-Man 242-245
Following an escape from Ravencroft, he captured Spider-Man and learned his identity (finally understanding why Spidey had gone berserk). Chameleon tried to convince him that his life as Spider-Man was just a figment of his imagination. Peter didn't buy it, but the Chameleon escaped and saw what he thought was Sergei. (It was actually the first time that Alyosha Kravinoff had met his uncle.) It was then that Alyosha told Dmitri he was a half-brother to Sergei. He went after Mary Jane, and she beat him with a baseball bat. He managed to escape from Spider- Man, after he was found with Mary Jane, but his luck didn't improve. He nearly died, as Alyosha confronted Dmitri with a rifle, saying "The world is only big enough for one Kravinoff." That's when Dimitri finally realized that the Kraven before him was not a hallucination. Too late...

I'm pretty sure Adrian Toomes was mentioned way back in the beginning with Stan Lee writing in ASM# 2. It's been awhile since i've read it though so don't quote me on that. Quentin I am not sure

Vulture was given his "real" name in the Stan Lee years.

Not sure now - But Amazing Spider-Man #48 the one where "Blackie" Drago takes a Vulture suit?

The Toomes name was used in Spectacular Spider-man 44 from 1980 for sure.

The Toomes name was used in Spectacular Spider-man 44 from 1980 for sure.

Yes... Toomes nephew, Malachai Toomes, is mentioned here, but the Vulture's name is not... and both Spec. #44 & 45 were written by Roger Stern, writer of ASM #240/241, where the name of Adrian Toomes is first mentioned.

Mysterio's real name was revealed for the first time in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #7 '83.

Kraven's full real name was revealed for the first time in the official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Deluxe Edition #7 '86.

Venom 1988 was correct in that the Chameleon's real name was revealed in Amazing spider-Man #389 '94.

I found the above information in the Official Index to the Marvel Universe #1 '09.

I absolutely agree with you. It's a wonderful resource, however, one must be caution as there are some very minor errors/mistakes in some entries. But hey we're all human so it's inevitable. ;)
