Hi Guys,
i thought you might like to have a look at some of the NA Batman B/W progress shots.
One of the toughest things about doing something to someone's style is taking photos at the right angles so as not to distort the look of the piece.
The painted version was done really quickly for the Chicago show and doesn't reflect exactly what the final product is going to look like. The cowl will not be black and the symbol on Batman's chest will be bigger and higher up on his chest. The grey lines they painted int his face will be removed. The guys at DC Direct are being just great about the project. Dad has recently sent over his changes in the paint.
It was important to my father to make this piece represent his version of Batman. Some of the earliest stuff had been inked quickly by other artists and looked a certain way, but if you've ever seen his pencils, you'd understand that the way he draws batman has a more athletic look than the way some of it was inked. The important thing to me was doing it to my fathers satisfaction. I went through more revisions than I ever did before to get this one done to make it look exactly as he wanted it to represent his Batman. I realize some people would prefer it match this drawing or that and there will always be opinions no matter what direction it was taken, but since it looks the way Neal Adams wants it to look, I figure it looks right.
Again, sometimes photos distort, like the painted shot does give the impression that the jaw is too square. You'll see in the photos below that it actually looks different from that shot. Yeah, I'd say he wanted it to look more like the cover he did for the first Batman Collection Hard Cover book rather that the old one which was actually a very small image made into a cover and probably not inked by him. Anyway, I am running late for work. Hope you all like the photos.
