Ya, I bumped the original thread the other day but no one replied lol.
Ya great show, I grew up on Sagan's Cosmos, and I think this is a good "next generation" of it.
Whoa, this came on already? Damn.
So is it like The Universe on History Channel?
This is a miniseries update of Carl Satan's miniseries Cosmos that aired in the 80s. I think it's better than The Universe that comes on the Hitler and Aliens channel.![]()
Carl Satan sounds like a badass dude.![]()

But yeah, the slow decline of all the educational channels is depressing. I like some fun speculative stuff too. But they've just gone overboard. Freaking Discovery ruined Shark Week this year with that "Documentary" about the ancient shark being alive today. It had a disclaimer that went by for a second AT THE END of the show's credits.
This has been great so far, I was expecting more space stuff but it has been alot of critical thinking and evolution so far. I am so happy there is a science based show on a major network in prime time.
Very informative episode. And I loved how they countered that damn eye argument creationists use. The whole episode was one big argument for evolution and it was very well done. I bet the show has already lost a chunk of creationist viewers tho.
I imagine the social conservative audience pretty much doesn't even bother to tune into Fox Television at 9 pm on Sundays anymore.

Appearing on "The Janet Mefferd Show" on Thursday, Danny Faulkner of Answers In Genesis voiced his complaints about "Cosmos" and how the 13-episode series has described scientific theories, such as evolution, but has failed to shed light on dissenting creationist viewpoints. He said:
"I was struck in the first episode where [Tyson] talked about science and how, you know, all ideas are discussed, you know, everything is up for discussion –- it's all on the table -- and I thought to myself, 'No, consideration of special creation is definitely not open for discussion, it would seem.'
Tyson recently addressed providing balance when it comes to discussing science. In an interview with CNN, the astronomer criticized the media for giving "equal time" to those who oppose widely accepted scientific theories.
"I think the media has to sort of come out of this ethos that I think was in principle a good one, but doesn't really apply in science. The ethos was, whatever story you give, you have to give the opposing view, and then you can be viewed as balanced," Tyson said, adding, "you don't talk about the spherical earth with NASA and then say let's give equal time to the flat-earthers."

Creationists Demand Airtime On Neil deGrasse Tyson's 'Cosmos'
Lol to funny. I sort of figured last week's evolution episode might cause issues with some. Only in America I guess.
1 think I am curious about is with a title like Cosmos, shouldn't it be 100% about space and not science in general
