You know, this movie has a really simple premise, but darn if I don't really want to see it.

Tons of movies have a simple premise, it's how you do it that matters.

The overall premise is somewhat simple but it looks like they've done enough with it to make it really intriguing.

Blomkamp looks a lot like Jensen Ackles.

The robots/droids look so real walking with Fichtner in that featurette. I'm hoping Elysium saves this summer for me as I've been dissapointed with all of the big summer films in one way or another. Pacific Rim is the latest but looks like I'm the only one dissapointed in that one so far.

Wow. I like Eminem (even as an actor) but I'm glad that didn't happen.

I'm also glad Die Antword's Ninja didn't take the role.

Blomkamp definitely makes unconventional choices, glad it didnt happen though.

Copley is turning into quote the chameleon as an actor. Look at him in what we've seen of Elysium and then look at how nerdy and awkward he was in District 9. One of the best, most underrated actors out there today. He's the main reason I want to see the Oldboy remake.

Yeah, I liked the spots where he has this maniacal glee after exploding some car.

Very different than Wikus.

This film already has started some interesting conversations. One of my friends who thinks all minorities are just complainers says this movie looks bad because its all about how "just because some people have everything suddenly everyone has to have everything".

I was a bit like, yeah, that's sort of the definition of a modern human. That its not all about "give it to me it's mine"

The amount of resources involved in building and maintaining something like the Elysium taurus for the benefit of a few thousand individual would be absurd and is intended to be an extrapolation and exaggeration of current arrangements.

How much do you think this film will make at the box office? I'm hoping it will do well, though the fact that people are still lining up to see crap like Grown Ups 2 has me worried.

Blomkamp has people's attention with District 9 and has some pretty big names with Damon and Foster.

It is R rated but R rated films can actually do pretty well in August as Tropic Thunder, Inglorious Basterds, and District 9 have shown.

Also while it has a larger budget than District 9 did, its not burdened with over coming some astronomically huge budget.

All the best science fiction usually is an exaggeration. At least the sci fi I read growing up.

Indeed. People complain about Blomkamp being a little too on the nose but that's really the point. Predictions of the future usually have far more to do with the present than any actual expectation of thing to come, be it a science fiction story or Nostradamus.
