of course. 300 isn't meant to be realistic either. It's a lucid dream of a movie. But what I meant was something like Star Trek or something more reality-based like Mission Impossible 4, it has to be believable enough that you can buy into it.
Like Ghostbusters isn't meant to be super realistic but you bought into it because they made Slimer and Stay Puft believable.
Even in Transformers, there's real weight to the bots, despite some of the gaudy designs. You believe that these robots have real scratches, etc.
It depends on the film. For a movie like Elysium, where there's real grit in a nasty future being depicted, the CGI has to sell.
