Neill Blomkamp's Alien film - Part 1

Neill just posted some concept art of an Alien film he had been developing, on his instagram...

Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph

Is sounds like it was something that he was working on by himself and he's no longer pursuing it unfortunately. :csad:

Pretty crazy stuff.

I'm not giving Scott any leeway but I agree that Blomkamp's downward spiral is incredibly disappointing.

I do wonder what he is going to do now. I hope recovers because he showed so much promise.

Maybe we can continue this thread without Dude Stannis... enjoying Prometheus a little too much and stop rehashing the same boring crap about Blomkamp endlessly?

And maybe we could continue without certain people acting like Ridley Scott is a talentless hack while we're at it.

Don't know who called him a talentless hack. Though I did say he is not the paragon of filming perfection some make him out to be. Besides this isn't about Prometheus 2, there's a thread already for that. Go drool over him in there if you insist on it.

Compared to Bloomkamp he's god. Neil has done what 3 movies? and out of those one is very good while the other two are borderline okay/mediocre.

He's done nothing compared to the likes of:

Blade Runner
Alien
Gladiator

That took precisely zero posts to happen.

I'm in the minority then, as I enjoyed Elysium more than District 9.

I'd argue that he's done one great film, one decent one. Which is STILL better than Ridley's track record over the last decade of so. You want to convince everyone that it's safer in his hands, then don't hang your argument on films that he made DECADES AGO!! "Oh he made a great film 20 years, so that proves he can totally handle it now, except it doesn't."

I will take Ridley Scott over Neill Blomkamp any day. Although Scott is old and past his 1980s prime he still make gorgeous films and to date one of few to utilise 3D effectively. Now that he returned one his best directional effort with The Martian since Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, I'll be more comfortable with Scott.

Blomkamp's filmography is a bit thin with only one hit -- District 9 which I considered to be an excellent Sci-Fi debut of the 2000s but not really a great film. In fact I think that too many people overhyped it. He should have been hitting the ground running after his breakout effort instead it seems to have stalled and his effort with Elysium & Chappie did him no favour. He's lucky that he didn't implode like Josh Trank. lol

I'll come back to this thread when it is actually about Alien 5 and not *****ing about Blomkamp while praising the godly Scott. :whatever:

Why does it matter how many movies Blomkamp has done? Ridley didn't do that many before Alien, Cameron didn't do that many before Aliens, Fincher didn't do that many before Alien3...

I enjoyed Prometheus, but I would 10x rather see a sequel featuring Ripley and Hicks than another pseudo-prequel that seems nervous about the franchise's roots.

Fox are idiots. What would excite the general audience more?

A true sequel to Alien 2

or

Prometheus?

No brainer, yet Alien 5 is on hold.

I wouldn't say they are idiots. Going with Ridley is probably the safer choice. But I would definitely rather see Alien 5.

Ridley Scott isn't going to let Alien 5 happen anytime soon. If I were you I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Scott already shares Alien with James Cameron, he probably isn't eager to share it with anyone else.

Ridley was producing Alien 5. I doubt Ridley pulled the plug on Alien 5. I think Fox are just waiting to see how Alien Paradise Lost does before they greenlight Blomkamp's movie.

I think people should remember that Ridley's Prometheus project has been in development and further along than Blomkamp's Alien film. If Fox were going to make another Alien film with Ridley then it was always more likely to be before Blomkamp's film.

FOX can do both... audiences are used to expanded universes by now

Scott only came on as "Producer" after Blomkamp's project was announced and was...gaining momentum, and then rather quickly and suspiciously announced that his film was now called ALIEN: Paradise Lost. Interesting, that. Scott is riding high right now on The Martian and thus has the "pull" to essentially "freeze" any project that seems to be encroaching on his. I'm betting it's an insecurity thing -- he muscled his way in on Blomkamp's film, and once he saw it was gaining more buzz and anticipation than his own...he asked FOX to put it on hold. At the very least, Scott of course demanded his movie being produced first...which you've seen him essentially admit already.

Hollywood operates on fear. You see firsthand evidence of that here.

These, ladies and gentleman, are my exact thoughts. No need for me to write my own version of this post now.

Bloomkamps Alien didn't even have a script. Prometheus 2 has one and is shooting early next year. So of course Ridley's movie would be first.

a Scott movie has a finished script? haha

a Scott movie has a finished script? haha

Touche.

But it is further along the process than Bloomkamps. Seeing as it already has a cast and they're into pre production with shooting commencing in the new year.

i agree. Scott can start filming in januar. Blomkamp would need at least 6 months.

I actually asked this question here some time before this announcement about which film you were more excited about Alien 5 or Paradise Lost? and in this thread more people picked Paradise Lost.

I don't think the amount of people who A) actually want to see a sequel to Prometheus and B) Want to see Scott direct an actual straight-up prequel to the Alien franchise especially after his most recent film the Martian sort of brought him back to good graces, should be discounted.
