Fantasy Netflix’s Damsel starring Millie Bobby Brown

I really liked it Millie was fantastic and was equal parts beautiful princess and grungy badass oh and I have to give props to casting Shoreh Aghdashloo as the dragon she was fantastic and her voice really suited the character.

Shoreh was the the dragon?
Interesting.
Didn't Julie Andrews voice an ancient sea creature in Aquaman?

So another Netflix lots of big name cast action show. I don't how much more world building of the first act they could have cut. I was surprised at what they did to the Disneyland

I watched Elodie stripping down her dress and thinking how far are they going to keep going with this down to Raquel Welch. We have a kid star, or did she hit that age.

I enjoyed this. Felt the characters were underwritten except Millie

This was fun. The script was a bit of a mess, and very anti-climatic, but Brown really held her own and carried the action. Aghdashloo was great as the dragon too, and I LOVED the costumes. Overall a good time, especially as far as Netflix standards go.

It's ok.

2nd half of the film was really rushed with everything happening at lightning speed.

Opening your film with "I'm not like other princess movies, I'm a cool princess who doesn't neee saving" was....very 2024. And it's 2024....all princess movies are like that so why do you have to state that you aren't a damsel?

The cutting of the hair was very GI Jane lol. They're had to be a "transformation" to let us know that she's overcoming beauty standards and things are about to get serious. There was zero reason to cut her hair but it was done.

The dragon looked great. Loved it for the most part. It's fire was very lava like.

Though the whole premise of
tricking the dragon into thinking these women were of the royal bloodline by cutting the hand just made me ask:
A. Why bother setting up these marriages when you can take up any commoner in the village, cut their hand, mix your blood, and sacrifice them?
B. All these women who've been arranged to marry all these princes throughout the films history....what did their families do? Never come visit?

How're there no rumors that this is a sketch place for noble women to go disappearing?

and why exactly cant the dragon have more kids? I might've missed that...i don't remember if they killed her baby daddy

Overall - interesting concept that hasn't been done yet in a film but sadly its Netflix and thus it wasn't exactly anything special.

And the ending is what I'd prefer for Daenerys.

Yup, she did.

I assume that was due to fairytale logic.
The Dragon wanted Princesses so they kind of ran with that.
But its weird they came up with a way to protect their Family with the whole Blood thing, yet havent figured out that maybe thats just how the dragon can tell and that it probably wouldnt matter that the are royalty?
I assume the families are willing to take the sacrifice in order to keep their Kingdom alive...thats the feeling i got from the first 20 minutes of world building.
Willing to sacrifice their daughters and keeping quiet in exchange for their Kingdom being cared for.

I find the trope weird that somehow almost every dragon in fantasy is the last one.
Like, i get the idea that the dragon laid its eggs and the last male dragon died, so she is the last and all...but how are these super powerful beings always the last?
They can tear through whole Kingdoms, there should be more than one dragon...it makes no sense when fantasy uses the trope of the last dragon to me.

The movies timeline is a bit wonky the more i think about it.
Like, how fast are they sacrificing these princesses?
Elodie didnt even escape yet fully when they grabbed her sister and threw her down, and even after that...they already planned for another wedding? Is this daily? How often do they have to sacrifice princesses to the dragon?

Also, is it important if the Princess survives the fall? Because that is quite a long fall.

There are questions i have, that exist because the Movie shows a lot of potential.
Otherwise i wouldnt care, but i do...which is a positive for the movie.
It created a world interesting enough, that i have questions to understand it better.

I was quite happy with the Dragon design. Very much not following the GOT trend. Its been a while since I saw Patrick Tatopoulos's name in the credits. He has a nice designer's eye
Yup, the dragon design was very cool.

This was alright. Interesting premise that had potential to be more entertaining but the execution wasn’t the best. Fairly typical average quality Netflix movie. A lot of the cast felt wasted especially Robin Wright and Angela Basset. The dragon was really cool though.

Saw this, found the Dragon and Millie both entertaining and cool and they held it together. A very talented rest of the cast felt a bit wasted though. The movie looked pretty and had some interesting things to say. Different dragon design to what we're used to recently and Aghdashloo was great voicing her.

6/10

Finally saw this. The thought Millie was great and I loved Shoreh’s voice work as the dragon. I also thought the costumes and sets were fantastic. And while the plot was pretty simple and didn’t leave a lot of room for world building, I liked some of the little touches they added like the glow worms. I would have liked to have seen more of Angela Bassett and Robin Wright, and I think maybe we could have had some scenes early on showing Millie training with a sword so that her eventual turn to a warrior felt a little more natural. I know we saw her chopping wood with an ax but it would have been good to show that she also had some fighting skills early on. Still, I enjoyed the film quite a bit and if the streaming numbers are good, I’d be down to see Elodie and the dragon return for Damsel 2.

I liked it up to a certain point, it was a good survival movie, I love the genre and the dragon was fantastic, but it kind of crumbled (no pun intended) near the end.

[sad snyder bro noises]
