Netflix “Leave The World Behind” (Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts)

Crazy it took this long for them to do another pairing being the stars they are and close friends. Anyway sounds very interesting, maybe some award potential.

This sounds like it could make a very cerebral Broadway play as well.

that looks pretty interesting. looks like Mahershala replaced Denzel? Title needs to be edited correct?

Interesting. Wonder why Denzel passed on this? His film choices are too uninspired now.

It's a good movie, it's out now. It might hit a little too close to home for some.

Enjoyed this a lot and wanted more when it was over.

Also, just want to say how much I respect Julia Roberts for allowing herself to age naturally and gracefully. She looks great and much better than most actresses her age who want to pretend they haven't aged past 30 and destroy their faces in turn.

I thought this was really good as well. The suspense, atmosphere, and score were up my alley.

Is it bad that it reminded me of the good M. Night flicks in how it was shot and such?

I actually thought it was a bit "over-directed" at some points in terms of the cinematography.

I loved the film. It had great acting, dialogues, mystery, suspense and exemplary tension building. I liked how it was a disaster movie but it was shown through the characters so you both cared about them but also didn't know what exactly was going on, even at the end. I read so many people online trashing it and its ending in specific but I thought it was very consistent to the narrative it was presenting from the beginning. One of the best I've seen this year.

I thought it was ok, but it felt... incomplete. The movie went in several directions and none of them seemed to be explained properly. They kind of tried to explain lack of communications (TV, phones, internet, satellites), but that didn't seem to have anything to do with the weird animal behavior or the mystery illness of the son.
Everything just seemed sort of there, like they didn't know how to properly tie it all together.

Yeah for me the movie was everything you wanted Sam Esmail to do with a cyber attack/apocalypse movie. He was on the Big Picture pod recently and he discussed pretty much everything that I thought worked about this movie especially dealing with how you are immediately in the dark if you're outside of human contact whenever something like this goes down.

Like I said in my review, it's basically if The Happening was actually really good and it focuses on character rather than plot.

They never gave definitive answers about all the stuff that was going on, which again I liked since you see the story developed through the eyes of people who have almost zero contact to the outside world, but regarding the illness they did say at some point that it was probably radiation coming through sound from the noises we heard earlier in the film. The son also did say at some point that he didn't cover his ears immediately so whatever that thing was, affected him more and instantly made him feel unwell. As for the animals it's not uncommon for them to behave irrationally when there are huge disruptions around them and that was end of days disruption with planes and bombs falling everywhere amongst many other things.

Usually I shrug these kinds of movies like this off, but this one actually gave me a bit of anxiety. Great performances and production go a long way.

Enjoyed it. Had no issue with the ending (as some apparently have, from what I've heard or read in passing).Very well acted. Don't watch many Julia Roberts movies so it was cool to see her being a b***h for once lol.

I really enjoyed this. If "enjoy" is the right word for a serious end-of-the-world movie. :csad: As noted (above), some critics who extended overall praise nevertheless thought the ending was a tad weak. But I loved the ending.
