John Cena to Star in Netflix Action Comedy Directed by Jason Bateman (Exclusive)

Cena will star in the untitled project which Bateman will direct. Sources say Bateman will also appear in the project. The action comedy reteams Bateman with Mark Perez, the writer of his 2018 sleeper hit, Game Night.

This new project has a Game Night vibe and could even be considered Movie Night, so to speak. The story centers on a family that gets stuck in an old abandoned movie studio. The sets come to life and the family members find themselves stuck in a various movies.

The concept is great. It kinda has a Scooby Doo vibe to it. I like that.

Game Night was excellent so the writer of that movie coming on board is a great sign and Cena was fantastic in Blockers so I'm down for this.

Someone saw The Shining part of Ready Player One and wanted to mix that with Night At The Museum.

Definitely a Night at the Museum vibe (I never saw those movies, so don't quote me on that)

But...there's a cool little "horror" film from a year or two ago called Final Girls where the character gets stuck in an 80's slasher movie...and there's a movie coming out soon called Isn't It Romantic where the character gets stuck in a romantic comedy. This seems like the suits got in a room and went "okay...what genre can we do? All of them? GREAT!"

Cena was hilarious in his limited screen time in BumbleBee. Dude has great comic timing. So this is a very good fit.

Like @Hunter Rider said in the other thread, Cena is creating a very good name for himself in Hollywood. I'm very happy for him as a fan from his WWE days.

I said he would be good for action and comedy roles before he started. He’s proving me right. Maybe we’ll get The Rock, Cena and Bautista in the same film one day.
