Not a bad idea but much of the origin for the villains would be a little too obvious.

I wouldn't show the origins of the joker only batman's point of view while fighting the red hood gang.
And possible some glimpses of jokers point of view a la killing joke

I'd say a bit of both like what the Bruce Timm animated series did.
The deaths and Joker shooting Barbara would have to be seen offscreen or make another way for it to work, maybe making important events like thse as direct to dvd/ Bru-Ray animated movies

For me anyway I think it should be targerted for adults and young adults but kids should still be able to watch it.
