New Joe Gatt Interview

Vic Armstrong is involved?Sweet

Thanks Comicus! Were you the one to conduct the interview? If so did you do any other interviews with any other cast members?

Currently we are focused on Iron Man 2 but I hope to have soon a new interview with some actor of Thor cast.:yay:

I liked this interview. To me it's cool that he is reading up on the Marvel Thor. I was a little dissappointed that Hopkins is not really studying the Marvel Odin.

Why? Anthony Hopkins is certainly a good enough actor that he doesn't need to read comic books to act as a regal figure.

It would only really bother me if Hemsworth or Hiddleston hadn't been reading up. Any others are a bonus.

The Odin of the comics is not just regal. He has a booming voice and a very powerful, commanding presence. He loses his paitence pretty easily and does not usually calmly sit back and let things play out the way the way I see Hopkins' Odin doing. Without reading the comics, I see Hopkins playing this role like he has most of the other roles I have seen him in, with an impressive, but quiet power. I just don't see Hopkins playing Odin as the very physical, larger-than-life character of the comics, unless he researched the character.

Then again, he might not play it that way even if he did read the comics. Branagh may want a different, more quiet Odin, and the script may reflect that. But even if that is the case, if Hopkins read the comics and saw the type of character that Odin is, he could add small occasional touches to his performance that would evoke the Odin of the comics. I thought that was why actors researched for their roles, to understand the characters that they will be playing. I hope this made sense, I have trouble getting my thoughts written down a lot of the time.

Hopkin's can take direction. It could be as easy as your own post, or something similar coming from almost anyone on the set, preffably from Branagh. Odin's IS importantly unique. I have confidence it will be handle correctly.

After all, "he is all-knowing." :)

I wouldn't say there's necessarily a "definitive" take on Odin even in the comics. I've seen writers oscillate a lot between a tender, loving father and a very stern king first, father second. Which, of course, makes sense because Odin's got a pretty complex role and, at his best, is a very layered character. If Hopkins can convey that duality of loving father and manipulative king in a convincing way, I'll be happy regardless of whether he knows exactly what Odin was doing on panel 3 of page 2 of Journey Into Mystery #92.

MIGHT KNOW WHO HE IS PLAYING!

My friend met him at Monstercon over the weekend in NJ. He asked him what he was currently working on. His exact words were, "I am playing one of the Ice Men in Thor." And that was it.

Could he be Ymir himself or just a frost giant?

Well that'd be Cool. Might even be Loki's real father.

I wonder if he'll be called Laufey or if they'll correct it to Farbauti for the film, since Laufey was actually Loki's mother.

They'll probably stick to the Comic version for Loki's Father. Who knows at this point. lol

For the guy who said joe said that he was an ice giant. A friend of mine just asked Joe about this:

"Gatt just told me he has never been to NJ or Monstercon. So source is fake."

Oh well, the illusion of some tiny bit of news was fun while it lasted. ;)

Man, I feared this.

First of all my friend has no reason to lie. He doesn't care about Thor. He only told me because he knows the big fan I am, not only that but my friend doesn't know Thor from a hole in the wall so the news didn't mean anything to him, but he told me because he knows I would want to know.

OK, it has been cleared up. I asked my friend again if it was Joe Gatt that he met in Jerz. He said he doesn't remember his name. Just that it was a really big guy who said he is in the Thor movie and he is going to play one of the ice men.

So why did I say Joe Gatt? When he first told me the news I asked him the guys name, he said he wasn't sure, so I said probably was Joe Gatt, he said maybe. Out of my excitment I made the post.

Miscommunication.

Well, that's cool. Although, the cast is like 75% "really big guys," so it doesn't really tell us much. Maybe the frost giants look like "ice men." Maybe there are just icy-looking dudes that Loki uses who aren't giants. But it's something to talk about, I guess.

Yeah, at least it gives a clue as far as villians go. I mentioned Joe to him because he was the first guy that came to mind and that I would assume would be at convention like that.

Didn't Joe mention something about guns or weapons?

I think he did. That's where all the Executioner speculation came from.
