I wouldn't say there's necessarily a "definitive" take on Odin even in the comics. I've seen writers oscillate a lot between a tender, loving father and a very stern king first, father second. Which, of course, makes sense because Odin's got a pretty complex role and, at his best, is a very layered character. If Hopkins can convey that duality of loving father and manipulative king in a convincing way, I'll be happy regardless of whether he knows exactly what Odin was doing on panel 3 of page 2 of Journey Into Mystery #92.
