I'm going there for a week starting tomorrow. Any advice?

Stay out of the French Quarter. It gets rough-n-tumble.

I've been there several times and the French Quarter isn't that bad usually. New Orleans has a lot to offer but it depends on why you are there. They have great food, the zoo and aquarium are good and they have excellent local scenery and architecture.

I personally never had problems with criminal elements like pick-pockets, muggers or drunken revelers looking for trouble.

You missed Mardi Gras but the French Quarter still has plenty of boobs (they have some nude bars/shops) if you're looking to see that.

The French Market is also interesting. Lots of souviners, food, and random stuff you can buy there.

It's no more seedy than any other big city. Just be aware of your surroundings as you normally would.

Never leave the French Quarter. It gets tumble and rough.

I've only been there once, but I love the place. It's like Disneyland for degenerates, drunks and perverts. Just remember, A) don't get sloppy drunk; and B) when you do get sloppy drunk, at closing time just go straight back to your lodgings, don't hang around the streets enjoying the ambiance. I was warned there when last call happens, the cops come out and all the southern French hospitality disappears at that point.

Nawlins is an awesome place and the food is great, but just be careful where you go at night. It's easy to get into a bad neighborhood real quick if you're not being careful. Have fun!

Get the Jazzy Pass, it's a 24 hour card to ride the streetcar. I bought 2 for my visit at Walgreens. Canal Street streetcar ride is nice to see some awesome homes. I went in December and the deco for Christmas was like Martha Stewart waved a ****ing wand.

You can hit up the Greenwood Cemetery & Mausoleum by way of, you guessed it, streetcar.

Be sure to post pictures in this thread when you return. :)
