Nice to see 300 adding a bit more grit to the sword and sandel series.

I can't wait for this series. I'm hoping for a perfect blend of "300" and "Rome", but trying to keep my expectations reasonable. Still, with all the talent involved, it's hard not to have very high hopes.

Re: Pompey and Crassus

Apparently the first series simply charts Spartacus' capture as a slave and his training as a gladiator with the finale being his escape from the gladiator school. So, no Pompey and Crassus because (as yet) there is no slave rebellion. If they make it to a second series, I expect they would add them to the cast (unless they remain off-screen threats/players).
