Well...I posted this in the Official Stupid Questions Marvel Edition thread, but...what I feared happened. One person responded, and then the topic basically changed. So, I'm made this thread.

After a while of deciding, I've finally chosen to start collecting the Daredevil series. Now, I was talking with some comic book guys at this shop and he recommended the Second Volume from when Miller worked on DD (when Elektra died). Along with that, he suggested that I get the first volume of the newest DD Marvel Knights stuff.

Are there any other things you guys recommend I read about? What is going on with DD at the moment? I heard he isn't involved much with Civil War. How far back should I search for individual issues or volumes to not be confused with recent stuff or anything?

Would greatly appreciate your input. My brother collects X-Men and Spider-Man stuff...this is my first time deciding to collect a series from Marvel so would love some good advice.

I would either start at Bendis or Brubaker's run. Although I haven't read Bendis' run, I still understand what's going on in Brubaker's, but from what I understand if you read through Bendis' run you will get more out of it. I think Bendis' run starts in the second hardcover volume, or the second trade. Brubaker's run so far is collected in "The Devil, Inside and Out" Vol. 1, with Vol. 2 coming out in May.

Just to let you know, Bendis' run is where the whole unmasking thing starts, so that might be a better place to start of the two.

You gotta start with Bendis' run,no question.Everything will make much more sense and you'll really get a payoff.

I know there are 2 or 3 Hardcover volumes collecting Bendis' DD,but I might be wrong.

Anyways,the trades go like this:

Bendis

Underboss
Out
Lowlife
Hardcore
King of Hell's Kitchen

The Widow
Golden Age
Decalogue
The Murdock Papers

Brubaker

Devil In Cellblock D
Devil Takes A Ride (Just finished in monthlies today)

...all really good stuff.IMO,the better ones are the ones I bolded.Murdock Papers was a great lead into Brubaker's run and is pretty much Cellblock's first half.

start with miller visionaries volume 1-3 then buy 'born again'

THEN start on bendis's run
Then catch up on brubakers run.

IF you're going to do all that I envy all the good reading you're going to have (but pity your wallet :) )

If you're really into DD,by all means get the Miller stuff too.

But if you're just trying to catch up to where things are currently, you can't go wrong with starting at Bendis.

I say grab the hardcovers done by Bendis/Maleev (Maleev on art). If you can't get single issues, wait on the the brubaker trade (the Devil Inside and Out) because while it is very good, his arc really ran for the whole year, and you will definitely want to read both Brubaker trades (whenever the second one comes out) at once, honest. I can't whole heartidly reccomend the Frank Miller run, but it certainly isn't bad. Congrats! I was surprised but Daredevil from Bendis to Brubaker really is amazing. One of marvels best comics.

Started to get the stuff I wanted, been reading a whole lot...and holy crap do I not deny spending any of that money. This stuff is great. Hopefully, soon I'll be updated enough to where I can pick up the current stuff at my local shop.

i'd say daredevil is marvel's best book, hands down.

when you consider it's consistency for the past 5 or 6 years, i can't think of a better book.

good job picking it up, and good luck finding the rest of the stuff.

I'm kinda in the same boat as the guy who started this thread. I got the Miller Visionaries (can't wait for the Omnibus Edition Hardcover), Born Again, DD:Yellow. Then i've got Vols. 1-6 of the Marvel Knights trades. Finding Vol. 8 has proven to be a quite a *****. I might not bother as it's not part of the Bendis/Maleev run. Have also yet to find "Man Without Fear".

I never order from on-line, prefer the old school way of trade hunting!

First of all don't base anything on the movie. in fact if you have seen the movie be glad, because no matter what happens in your life it will never be that bad again. unless you bought elektra in which case shoot yourself.

Actually i guess i am one of the few that liked the Elektra movie.
