Instead of Red Dawn, why does Hollywood not fund a real historical invasion of the United States? The war of 1812 does this. That's not say that the money shot will be the burning of the White House, but seeing it from the point of view from the president or the Battle for Baltimore, or maybe Andrew Jackson. It would be really interesting to make it not like The Patriot but more in tone with Glory or James Madison, nothing too action packed and cheesy.
I personally believe it's America's greatest time of crisis, and it should be portrayed as such.
This History Channel did a good job.
