The What?

SHH! Classic Movies Tournament is a tournament which will hopefully by the end discover what SHH! considers the best classic movie as well as it’s top ten.

The Why?

The point of this is to give SHH! users insight into movies they might not of had before as well as to increase awareness of older movies.

The How?

Quite frankly the rules aren’t completely mapped out yet, this is the prototype really. All that is known now is that the movies will be broken up into brackets, people will be charged with debating which movies are better, and then it’ll be put to a vote.

What to do now?

This thread is for nominations, everyone is allowed to nominate one movie. Once all the nominations are counted Sunday Afternoon, a second thread will be made to weedle it down to the actual candidates for the tournament. So basically you should nominate movies that haven’t already been picked.

Rules

  1. You may not nominate any super-hero films since I will be having a tournament specifically dedicated to those films
  2. You may not nominate any movie that has been made in the last 20 years, so anything after 1986 is a no-no, why? Because these are not classics, most of you guys will nominate movies in the past 20 years and I'm going to have a separate tournament for these movies as well!

REMINDER: NO SUPERHERO FILMS OR FILMS MADE IN THE PAST 20 YEARS, YOU GET ONE NOMINATION

FOREIGN FILMS ARE ACCEPTABLE AND GREATLY APPRECIATED

Another point I will in no way be sleighting or helping movies win, this is completely determined by you guys, so much so I'll probably be coming up with random bracket selection system which I'll annouce later.

What about Young Guns? Or Goodfellas?

Saddly both films I love dearly, actually I like Young Guns but love Goodfellas, but both films are not 20 years old, I actually originally going do 15 but DangerMouse recommended 20 and I agree because I will be doing this again for films made in the last 20 years. So anything after 1986 doesn't qualify.

How bout the Great Escape.

^Oh yeah that's the one

Steve McQueen...king of cool

I guess I'll nominate Dr. Strangelove.

The French Connection

There should be a rule that once the films are picked out you must watch them all to vote (or whatever. Watch them both if it's between two, etc). Cuz I can think of plenty of classics that deserve a chance, but I know most won't have seen them and therefore vote for the more popular. : (

I actually have a system I'm devising to fix this problem of course it won't be full proof since this is all just for fun anyway, but it'll start in the nomination process when I divide up the popular movies and the unpopular movies into two seperate brackets and at some point when it widdle down to a good amount the tournament will be put on hiatus for 2 weeks possibly 3 depends what I decide so people can watch all the movies in the tournament or a good amount, this might be when it's widdle down to 8 or maybe 12, I don't know again I'm still working out the semantics in my head. Again the point of this whole thing is to promote movie discussions and to push movies that you might not know about.

SO JUST MAKE YOUR DAMN NOMINATION ALREADY

Friendly Persuasion

Starring Gary Cooper, a historical drama set during The Civil War. It deals with Religious abstation from war and the morality of it.

There's so many that I love, but I decided to pick one that I wouldn't consider one of my favorites, but it is a classic and a great film.

Easy Rider

EDIT: I decided to change my nomination to Psycho. Some one posted Rear Window and that jogged my mind, and I think Psycho was better than Easy Rider.

So again, my nomination goes to Psycho.

Chinatown

...I had to switch mine up since someone already said Papillion. ****er.
