Now Introducing HBO Max Classic

Just to clear this up, HBO "Max" scripted are getting swindled... but HBO (regular) is technically ok overall - even though HBO stuff also streams on the HBO Max app.
That's the idea. The problem is, those things have kind of became one over the last couple of years. For example, what is House of Dragons?

If you go in the HBO Max app, House of Dragons is being promoted in the HBO hub. The HBO Max shows have “Max Original” title in them.

So the app itself is not going anywhere, but the original programming is either disappearing or moving to HBO, correct? As long as the app is safe, I'm not going to panic quite yet as outside Hacks and the Action Park documentary I never really watched the Max Originals anyhow.

I never quite understood why HBO Max needed original programming anyhow. Just put it on HBO and have it appear on the app afterwards. Anyone that has HBO can use HBO Max and vice versa, so it always seemed a little redundant having "Max Originals".

WBD stock is up today. Wall Street is going to like the cuts.

I don’t really care about those particular movies and I understand stuff cycles in streaming. But it is about what this means. If you aren’t keeping your own films that you own free and clear, then why have HBO Max at all? It really seems like they are killing the service.

I mean, yeah, they are. This all seems prep for the merging of HBO Max with Discovery+.

That's just it, they don't own them "free and clear". They don't want to pay residuals. It's a gross and disgusting practice, that really makes me want to cancel my HBO sub. Which I've had for 13 years.

Ehhh, I'm not enitrely sure how much residuals are a factor in stuff made for streaming. Based on Sweeney's recent interview, it doesn't sound like actors get them.

We have to see how the merge happens. Is stuff being moved to the Discovery+ app? To the HBO Max app? Is a new app being devloped? (unlikely, based on everything)

As for HBO Max originals, its about budgeting and such. HBO is separate from HBO Max, and has different goals in developing shows, as well as differing resources. There is a logic in some consolidation, but it sucks overall.

Depends on the actor. Also, we have to consider the evolution of contracts. Like how music rights caught up to streaming. What I read about this situation is that there are some sort of residuals tied up in simply having the films up on HBO Max. Considering they slaughtered two Anne Hathaway flicks, I can her making a decent chunk of change off it.

Also, we are seemingly talking about an all time penny pincher. No amount is too low.

Wait so for example if Peacemaker season 2 even happens now it will possible be on the HBO tv network and the same goes for those The Batman Spin-offs if those happen? If so I’m very cool with this news.

I do appreciate how season 3 seems to have just taken over memes.

Rumor has it HBO Max is going under and will be merged into Discovery+ app.

They wont do anymore HBO Max originals and will likely cancel majority of hte Max originals.

Discovery wants to focus more on reality shows.
This is looking like it's aging well.

That's cool and all, but I'm sure you'd have heard the same thing from the teams working on the canceled projects if you'd asked them that question just two days ago.
True.

So am I crazy, or does HBO Max not have way more subs then Discovery+? Why would you fold into Discovery+?
