They’re still merging the platforms but more in a half-assed way according to this report (and they just raised prices). Presumably they’re keeping Discovery+ around as a cheaper option.

“Instead of combining HBO Max and Discovery+ in their entirety, the new platform will feature HBO Max content and most Discovery+ content, with Discovery+ remaining available as a stand-alone option, some of the people said.”

Not only that but WBD wants to launch a third streaming service:

“To that end, the company is also planning to launch a free ad-supported streaming service this year in an effort to reach a broader audience as the competition for users intensifies. The coming free service will include a variety of streaming channels of programming including library content from the Warner Bros. studio, as well as shows that originally ran on HBO and Discovery outlets, said the people familiar with the situation.”

My annual subscription is up next month. I’m debating about renewing it. There’s a lot of HBO shows that I never watched before that I want to go though. Currently watching Chernobyl.

Yeah I’m probably going to renew it just for The Last of Us and then Succession starts up after that. Honestly, all the cancellations and purging they’ve been doing lately hasn’t affected me yet. It’s not like there was something that was sitting in My List that disappeared out of the blue (unless it was something that rotated out of library which we knew about beforehand).
