*applause*
It's been a while since I've spoken on this issue. But since this thread's curious (or is it bi-curious) reintroduction by one Erzengel, I will acknowledge this situation.
When I originally created this thread, I was a lowly forum user just like you. I was angry, upset, and downright frustrated by the fact that no one took me seriously. Part of this was because I was an above average poster at best. But the other half was because of my name.
No one knew what to make of it.
"Cmill? What the **** is a Cmill?"
"216? Is that his zipcode?"
So I started this thread as a means to reach out to those who had persecuted me and my kind. And in the weeks that followed, I began to see a change. Young NumbersInName posters began to stand up and raise their voices proudly, defending their digits with honor and dignity.
And then, the craziest thing happened:
I became a mod.
Reaction to my modship was met with controversy. "How could they make him a mod? What, was Spidey2228334402 not available?"
Even though my name had become red, I still wasn't treated with the respect I had so clearly earned.
It was kinda like that moment in Episode III where Anakin threw a hissy fit because they wouldn't make him a Jedi Master, but they still invited him to join the council, and he was pretty pissed about it, but he was like "F*** it" and just sat down anyway.
But I took their words to heart. One could even say I took a few mental notes. As the haters continued to cry out "Affirmative Action", I kept my head to the ground and kept on digging. Fighting. Knowing one day, this forum could be a better place for my children.
(Not that anyone should want to have my kids, but I digress.)
Three years later, I'm now an administrator.
Things have certainly changed a lot over these past few years. Faces have come and gone. Post quality has fluctuated like T.I.'s freedom. But NumbersInNames prejudice remains.
As my father, Cmill116 once told me, "Son. If I have taught you anything, it's this: if you get a girl pregnant, tell her it wasn't her fault."
And as he also said, "Some traditions never die."
I stand here today as a man whose resolve will never waver. And I will not stop until each and every NumbersInName poster is given equal rights. The right to post where they want to post. The right to start a thread where they want to start a thread. The right to debate Christian Bale's physique anytime they want to debate that man's physique.
Let me be an inspiration to all of you. Because some day you, yes even you, could be an administrator of the Superhero Hype Boards.
God bless The Internet. And no place else.
