Very surprised to see Oblivion in the lead, I thought the reactions to that were even more mixed than for Elysium.

I do think Elysium was better directed and had more substance, the end of both movies had me a little teary-eyed but Oblivion kind of ruined that with the convenient happy ending, Elysium left its ending bitter-sweat which I thought was a better move.
And yeah Oblivion didnt really have a villain you coud get into, Elysium had Kruger who was awesome, one of the best villains of last year for me.

I liked Elysium a little better thanks to Kruger, but neither of them were all that special or memorable, imo.

oblivion for sure. much better character arc and payoff. a better film overall.
elysium had some cool action(loved bugatti raid scene) but it went down dreadful from third act.
it was a misfire.

Oh damn I voted for the wrong one. Subtract one point for Elysium and add one more for Oblivion.

Tough question as they where both top 10's for me. Overall I'd go Oblivion, on a visual level it's exemplary, moreso than Elysium and I have a feeling Elysium will probably get a director's cut one day. It feels very rushed.

Both movies were horrible to me.

Oblivion was just an incoherent mess. It did not know what kind of film it wanted to be and although the visuals were nice the plot was essentially DOA. I was watching it on HBO and honestly don't know why I didn't change the channel a long time ago. Elysium on the other hand wasnt much better quality wise but it had more clear direction.

I vote Elysium.

Tough question as other have said both were a little bit of a letdown compared to the trailers and anticipation going in.

Oblivion looked stunning and had some decent twists but felt a bit hollow with no real substance to it.

Elysium had Kruger but the rest of it I ended up not really giving a damn about which was strange, again it all looked good but the story and script were a bit weak.

I think I would give it to Oblivion just.

I haven't watched Elysium yet, but Oblivion was pretty bad. And I can't imagine Elysium could actually be any worse. So I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Elysium is the better movie.

Oblivion's design work stands out to me, and I was less disappointed in it. Neither were particularly good though.

I voted Oblivion. Elysium was cool, but it was like a bunch of cliches mashed together. Oblivion was more interesting overall.

Elysium had a chance to go very far into its themes, but what it did instead was done in a rudimentary high school level. And the third act was just..horrible.

If the script had more care and polish, Elysium could've been an okay movie that was great. SO it's a more frustrating experience than Obvlivion because I know that Neil could've done better. He's a smart, creative and capable guy.

Again, Elysium is not a bad movie; it's a frustrating movie.

Hhhmmm, you could be onto something here, but the movie feels quite complete how it is.

Oblivion=Elysium

Yeah, pretty much. Neither one of them is all that good, but the nature of the problems is so specific to each movie that it's hard to weigh them against one another IE would I rather go with the dunderheaded messages and half baked scripting of Elysium or the portentous, derivative, soullessness of Oblivion? I'm left thinking, "who cares?"

I think both movies have more merits than faults. I enjoyed them both a lot and bought them both on BD, they both stand up quite well on repeat viewings.

I prefer Elysium because it not only actually had a bad guy but he was awesome as well in the shape of Kruger. Plus it didnt cop-out with its ending the way Oblivion did.

If Oblivion was an 1 hour feature...i would definitely vote for it. The final part of this film is so weak , its hard for me to pick , even if i enjoyed the first part a lot more than anything in Elysium

From a more analytical approach , Elysium is better film. So i pick Elysium , although the doubts i had voting this poll is something i would never ever expected before both films were released.

I'm a sucker for happy endings.

I am actually not one of those people who hates happy endings, I often like them and sometimes hate unhappy or bittersweet endings, the ending of POTC 3 immediately springs to mind.

But I thought Elysiums bittersweet ending just worked better than Oblivions happy one for me. The latters ending just seemed far too convenient, even though it was explained pretty well.

Same here, I enjoyed both movies but I was expecting both to be much better as well.
