Reports like this leaves me wondering what the heck Nintendo was thinking by release this thing so soon. I mean, advertising for it has been VERY poor... I've seen next to no commercials or even print ups for it in magazines.
They are waiting until they get a few more games out there and closer to the holiday season, then they start advertising to the main stream and sales will increase dramatically. They want to get all the early adopters out of the way and have time to get a good stock of them made, that way when they do start the advertising anyone who wants one can just go out and get it.
Yes they should have waited to release it, since there are no games and a lot of the system features don't work yet, but it will not hurt them in the long run if they just hold off before letting the general public know about the system (which they don't right now).
Also, a lot of people who do read about this stuff daily and knew about this system since E3, are waiting because of the really bad battery, $250 price tag, and extremely lackluster lineup. The only games announced that I am at all interested in is the new Layton and the new Mario. I have no interest in playing through Ocarina or Star Fox again and games like Metal Gear and Resident Evil will probably just make me miss my tv. I also know that Nintendo constantly makes new/better iterations of their handhelds, so I am holding off until gen 2 at least.
