ha, me too... and those were the two games I had for it. I also had some form of Robot boxing game that was damn near impossible to beat.
The third game I had was that Star Fox like game. It was so hard to tell what was an enemy and what was a wall. It was all Spider-framed, so you couldn't really tell what to do sometimes.

This is awesome for me. I bought the system for full price and haven't regretted it a bit. I've loved the system so far.

But now I get twenty free games for it this year, ten NES and ten GBA, and of the ones announced, they are all pretty awesome quality titles.

This has made my day, I'll tell you what.

Ha, yeah, it is pretty cool. :word:

I wonder how much space all 20 games will take up? What size memory card came with the system?

2 gig, I would think it would be enough, but if not I'll go out and grab a larger card. :p

IGN says Nintendo is (probably) doomed with this price drop announcement due to their "history."

http://ds.ign.com/articles/118/1184980p1.html

Then again.... It's IGN.

I would be surprised if the projected lifespan of the 3DS hasn't been drastically shortened.

They launched too early (no games), with a too high price point, and based their entire ad campaign around the gimmick of the system (3D) and not the power of it. The mass market think the 3DS is just a DS with 3D added, and it's Nintendo's fault. It also doesn't help that a good amount of players frequently or always turn off the the feature they are trying to sell.

But, I think they are just waiting until the holiday season. The early adopters are out of the way, they can build up supplies, and now they will ramp up ads with the new price-point right up until christmas and I'm sure it will be a big seller when all is said and done.

Hopefully that will be enough to get 3rd parties back on board with the system, I'm sure a lot of them have looked at the poor adoption rate and are second guessing doing anything meaningful for it.

A redesign that fixes the hinge, scratching and battery issues wouldn't hurt either.

Just get Kid f*&*ing Icarus done before the system gets axed and I'll be fine.

and thats pretty ironic considering the 3D is its main selling point. The few times Ive used it, Ive had to shut it off bc it hurts my eyes

This holiday will be the telling signs of how the system will do, and yes, it very premature to call doom now. This winter we get the one two punch of Mario and Mario Kart, both of which generally help sell a system for years.

I mean, heck Mario Kart DS and NSMB both were in the NPD top ten for over three years over many a brand new game.

And yes, IGN are jumping the gun with their theory.

Also, how many do you actually know that turn off the 3D? Your circle of friends or even people on these forums do not represent the majority of 3DS owners. Saying 'most turn off the 3D' when you don't know most of the customer base is just plain goosery. (for the record, most of the time I play with the 3D on.)

cant wait for mk 3d and mario 3d - with zelda cming up plus new rugby "soccer" and cod games im gonna be broke

I'll actually probably wait until a redesign hits. I want one for Zelda, Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart... but I REALLY want it for Luigi's Mansion 2 and the rumored Pikmin game.

Plus, if they actually do remake Majora's Mask then consider me sold. I just... I'm playing it a bit cautiously for right now.

I was on the testing team for system level stuff before the 3DS was released and for one of the games coming out soon, and I could get maybe an hour straight of 3D before my eyes would feel weird or I'd get a headache. No one on the teams used 3D, and not many people in the department did either. It's cool to look at, but playing games in it for extended periods of time is a bummer.

Nintendo took a gamble with 3D because that's where the entertainment industry was headed, but unfortunatly for them 3D in theaters is on a downslide and I can't imagine at home 3D tvs have penetrated too deeply. I don't think slapping 3D onto your system or games is enough to get people's attention. I would hope during their holiday ads they spend equal or more time talking about the improved graphics and gameplay possible with the 3DS and less time showing things flying out of the screen.

What I really want to know is, can a game make actual gameplay use of the 3D? So far every game works just as well with the 3D turned off. I suspect Prof. Layton will be the first contender in this, some kind of depth only puzzles, but I'm not convinced this type of 3D can be used as an integral part of a game...

Edit: Here is a UK ad for the 3DS that doesn't mention the 3D screen. I suspect ads like this will be more prominent this holiday:

It's Nintendo's own damn fault for rushing it out just to have it out. If they'd waited until holiday season when Super Mario, Paper Mario and Mario Kart are out AND launched it at the new price... they wouldn't be having any problems.

Sony and MS are more than willing to release hardware at a loss in order to get the price as low as possible and the penetration as high as possible. Nintendo never releases at a loss and while it's certainly been great for the company, it was bound to bite them sooner or later.

They were making around a 100 dollar profit on each 3DS sold, that's a huge number when you consider Sony was losing around 200 dollars for each launch PS3 sold.

meh ive had no problems with the 3d - didnt turn it off once for ocarina

Has Nintendo revealed the full list of games yet?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but it's Iwata's apology letter.

Satoru Iwata said:
To Those Customers Who Bought A Nintendo 3DS Before The Price Change

Greetings, everyone. This is Satoru Iwata from Nintendo.

Thank you very much for purchasing a Nintendo 3DS.

We have just announced a price drop for the Nintendo 3DS system effective on August 11 [August 12 in North America].

In the past, there have been price drops for video game systems some time after their release in order to broaden the user base further. However, never before has Nintendo chosen to issue such a dramatic price drop less than 6 months after a system release.

We are all too keenly aware that those of you who supported us by purchasing the 3DS in the beginning may feel betrayed and criticize this decision.

This unprecedented timing for a price cut is because the situation has changed greatly since we originally launched the 3DS. We decided it was necessary to take this drastic step in order to ensure that large numbers of users will continue to enjoy the 3DS in the future.

If the software creators and those on the retail side are not confident that the Nintendo 3DS is a worthy successor to the DS and will achieve a similarly broad (user) base, it will be impossible for the 3DS to gain popularity, acquire a wide range of software, and eventually create the product cycle necessary for everyone to be satisfied with the system.

Those customers who purchased the 3DS at the very beginning are extremely important to us. We know that there is nothing we can do to completely make up for the feeling that you are being punished for buying the system early. Still, we would like to offer the following as a sign of our appreciation to you.

[3DS Ambassador program details]

We feel a strong responsibility to develop the 3DS as a platform -- to ensure that, in the end, everyone is satisfied; we will make every effort to do so.

Additionally, we know everyone is waiting for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. They are scheduled for release in November and December, respectively, so we ask for your patience until then.

Thank you again, and we look forward to your continued support.

See, now I don't even view that as a publicity stunt because Nintendo's people are pretty good about that kind of thing.

should make it more free games and an ass load of club nintendo points

The only game I had to constantly tone down the 3D was for Pilotwings. Too much scenery, too bright, too vivid. The 3D made the game too distracting.
