Wolverine spin-off script details revealed

WolverineClose.jpg
The script writer for the Wolverine spin off movie David Benioff is talking about what we can expect in the script to Comic Book Movies:
Benioff plans to "rough" Jackman's Wolverine up a bit, showing more of his berserker side only teased at in X2's mansion invasion scenes. The story will be a "bit darker and a bit more brutal" and geared toward an R rating.
That's great news, if the Studio, Producers and Director, will all let that happen too, at least the first step will be in the right direction. He goes on to say...
...my concept of him for this movie is the one I grew up with: He's a gritty character, a tough, working-class Canadian guy who was born with certain special powers and granted more through a series of brutal experiments for more that's my Wolverine reality. Im not going too far from that.
Gone are the more fanciful stories that the character gets involved in, and it looks like it's more down to reality with fighting bad guys and killing them with a bit of violence thrown in. How does that suit?

Post here for latest plot details...

It doesn't seem that they are going to be too over the top with this... that's why I doubt we will see Omega Red and Team X and all those other characters... I think they will just focus on his personal relationships and maybe a little bit of his history in the military finally culminating to his capture in the weapons X program...

Better be an R rating

I want to see blood and gore. Lots of berserk yellings.

I can't see an R rating to be honest. Wolverine is a hugely popular character for the general public. Given how picky FOX were over X3, I can't see them excluding all the kids from a Wolverine movie when they know it will help them rake in the money. Wolverine is their cash cow.

On a side note, I'm loving people trying to monopolise these new forums with 'Official' threads. :O

Well, Benioff has stated he has wrote an R rated script and that anything less wouldnt be fair to the character, Jackmans own production company, Seed, is getting behind the movie as well and we all know how he loves playing wolverine so it seems there is some push towards the R rating but you are right though, fox will probably screw us over again :(

Who even bothers with rating nowadays anyway?

Fox managed to turn AvP into a PG-13 Movie. It's gonna take a miracle to get a R rated Wolverine Movie.

I both agree and disagree. I don't see FOX cutting out those younger fans, but there are enough factors to make it a strong possibility:

1) It's "Wolverine"- do we even need special effects really? That's going to lower the budget, plus its not an ensemble piece, again lowering it. And you know what? Hugh Jackman's producing- he may just take his cash off the back-end. Since 'R' will cut profits a bit, a low budget can help balance that out.

2) If "Wolverine" is made 'R' and excludes the younger fans, they'll find a way to see it anyway. You know what FOX will do to include those younger fans? The "Young X-Men" spinoff/sequel.

3) FOX has been great at marketing the comic-book flicks. Despite horrible reviews, Fantastic 4 did great for them (liked it a lot, by the way... waiting for the director's cut to love it more) and X3 just did great (again, loved it, but reviews were far from praising it). They even made Alien vs. Predator a success. Here's our most recent example- The Omen, rated R, just broke Tuesday box-office records.

Having said that, I still hope it stays clear of 'R'. Because I'm afraid that if this becomes 'R', then the "Young X-Men"/"X4" sequel will be turned into a kiddy film in terms of tone. If that doesn't happen though, then I'm all for 'R'. With Zak Penn returning for his 3rd X-film and possibly Ratner to direct that, then tone may not be an issue because they'll be granted more creative freedom.

The Omen set Tuesday records because movies don't come out on Tuesdays. They come out on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The tone of the Wolverine film will be much darker than the previous X-films. If it's not R, it will be as close as you can possibly get without crossing into that territory.

It'll probably be about his time with Stryker.

LOL. That should be the title of the movie "My time with Styker". Cue cheezy classical music score and scenic english countryside. Loads of rowing boat trips and picnics on the thames. lol.

That what i said on the costume thread. If they give wolverine his trademark cowboy hat they best make damn sure they don`t give sabretooth one. People might get the wrong idea from the posters.lol

I'd like to see the movie start out with him just having escaped from the Weapon X project.......possibly waking up in the wilderness, trying to figure out who he is and what's happened to him

The movie won't be R-rated. This is Fox we are talking about here.

They turned an R-rated movie franchise into PG-13 crap with Alien vs. Predator.

Yeah, Alien vs Predator sucked because it was rated PG-13!...hah... :O

Anyways, it's pretty likely that it'll end up being PG-13 in theaters and there'll be extended/unrated versions out on DVD...A la Daredevil.
