Shailene Woodley has been cast as Lindsay Mills, girlfriend of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character.

This film isn't what people think it is. Its just about a guy named Edward who can't leave his house because of a blizzard.

MIght I add, is there a market for a movie like this? I would rather watch a documentary.

My interest dropped a bit when I read that Oliver Stone was directing this.

Everyone just go and watch Citizenfour...

Stone's directing is really quite crappy. And I don't understand why he's basically the go-to guy for political nonfiction biopics. He makes them all mediocre at best. JFK and Platoon are classics, and that's really about it.

Goddammit terry. I was just about to add I I don't care about this movie, but now that Cage is in I'm interested on that basis.

But yeah... with these you gotta wait a while. Give it a decade or so. But Stone is about as subtle as a sledgehammer when it comes to his views so most likely he's gonna have fun painting Snowden as a clear cut hero.

I was hoping Nicolas Cage would play himself, written into the Snowden saga somehow, possibly also involving ninjas, the ghost of Margaret Thatcher and the theft of St. Basil's Cathedral. But alas ...

Nick Cage is the only guy I know in the game now that could do SyFy channel level **** and still do A-list blockbusters in the same breath and not get derided for any of it.

Brilliant.

Oliver Stone logic:

*Puts glasses on a human being*

"OMG YOU LOOK LIKE SNOWDEN."

Citizenfour did a fine job in presenting a real-life thriller, one that creates enough interest for an audience without seeming didactic. All of Stone's work is romantic, preaching bull****, and he doesn't deserve this project. I will be genuinely surprised if he's somehow presented an honest, realistic take on this man. But I doubt it. Stone conforms to many Hollywood narrative conventions and techniques in his biopics. By doing so, he doesn't present a believable representation of reality. It's especially annoying, because a film like this is needed for the public. We need films about people like Snowden to elicit a mainstream debate about privacy in the 21st century. But with someone like Stone behind this project, he won't add anything new or surprising to the debate.

I wonder if Snowden approves this film getting made.

Eh, we already have had the argument of actors not resembling real life counterparts umpteen times. I don't care at this point.

I have a sneaking suspicion Stone and JGL probably both admire Snowden, and Stone is hardly politically objective, so yea, I highly doubt this will be the morally ambiguous, open to interpretation portrayal it could be.

JGL doesn't look anything like Snowden, but honestly I care more about performance than physical resemblances.

I think from a physical frame standpoint JGL probably looks more like Snowden than say Fassbender looks like Jobs. It's like they literally just said **** it, let the performance speak for itself.

Most likely, this is exactly what's gonna happen. But hey, if this portrays a celebration of him, if it's a good movie for what it is trying to do, then it's good. But the problem is Stone is not subtle in his film's messages and really does not make much of an effort to be open minded of both sides. Hopefully it does spur debate in the right ways and not just proclaim, "This man was a hero and that's it." Hopefully it's somewhat textured and not hit you over the head with its sided message.

I mean, I get what Snowden was trying to accomplish and I agree with the mindset but I don't 100% think he's this iconic hero of the people either. He didn't not have his own motivations either.

Exactly. Stone just bludgeons you over the head with his agenda.

Not a fan of Oliver Stone at all, so bleh. :csad:

I'm also getting over JGL in recent years. He comes across as being completely full of himself while maintaining a smug face that says "I'm totally not full of myself." It's also not helping with his HitRecord company. It feels like, "Hey Hipsters! I want you to make a bunch of art for me and then I'll own it and publish it and reap the profits! Sound good?"

Maybe it's going to charity, who knows?
