Oliver Stone's Savages
EXCLUSIVE: Savages, the Oliver Stone-directed adaptation of the Don Winslow novel, is zeroing in on a distribution deal. Universal is in poll position with two others in the running. Along with Aaron Johnson, Stone is in talks with Taylor Kitsch to play the two Laguna-based pot growers arm-twisted into working for a Mexican cartel when they kidnap O, the free spirited best friend of the growers. Kitsch, best known for Friday Night Lights and a showy small role as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, just starred in Universal’s Battleship after completing the title role in Disney’s John Carter of Mars. The distribution situation should be resolved within the next week, but I’m hearing Universal will wind up with the picture. Aside from Johnson and Kitsch, I’ve heard Stone is looking at Salma Hayek to play the cartel matriarch, an iron-fisted beauty who becomes intrigued and practically maternal over the kidnapped gal. But business is business, and the drug kingpin is suddenly plagued by a problem: someone is ripping off her drug shipments. What she doesn’t know is it’s the guys she’s trying to muscle. Kitsch plays Chon, an iron-hard former operative who is a remorseless killer and seems to only have room in his heart for his growing partner and O. Jennifer Lawrence has fallen out of the O role because of her commitment to The Hunger Game, and Stone is looking at candidates like Olivia Wilde, as the director works on honing the script written by Shane Salerno and Winslow.

Sounds so utterly boring. Why cant he make something more exciting?

The actors they're choosing for this movie is making me less and less excited about this one.

Tayor Kitch
Olivia Wilde
Aaron Johnson
Selma Hayek

are these bad actors to you?

and benecio del toro is possibly in this as well

Taylor Kitsch and Olivia Wilde are both mediocre to me. I much prefer it when Jennifer Lawrence was involved. Haven't seen enough of Aaron Johnson to judge. Salma Hayek is fine by me.

^ Yeah, that's true. I should clarify. Most of the names being linked to this movie so far are not exciting me.

Title: Savages +
Director: Oliver Stone +
Topic: Pot Farmers +

I don't see any negatives about this one yet.

BLAKE LIVELY IS OLIVER STONE'S PICK FOR 'SAVAGES'

Blake Lively has emerged as the front-runner for the female lead in Oliver Stone’s “Savages,” Variety's Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) and Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) exclusively report. Stone will write and direct the pic, which follows two marijuana kingpins forced to work for a Mexican drug cartel after Ophelia, the free-spirited girlfriend they share, is kidnapped. Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch are in talks to play the two male leads, with Benicio del Toro negotiating for one of the baddies. Lively will likely have to choose the role over a turn as Glinda the good Witch of the East in Sam Raimi’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful” for Disney, which is shooting around the same time.

Lively front-runner for Stone's 'Savages'
'Gossip' star was also considering 'Oz'

Blake Lively has emerged as the front-runner for the female lead in Oliver Stone's "Savages," a role she may have to choose over playing Glinda the Good Witch in Disney's "Oz" reimagination.

Stone will write and direct the pic, which follows two Laguna Beach marijuana kingpins forced to work for a Mexican drug cartel after Ophelia, the free-spirited girlfriend they share, is kidnapped.

Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch are in talks to play the two male leads, with Benicio del Toro negotiating for one of the cartel enforcers.

Early in the casting process, Jennifer Lawrence was the choice -- but when she won the much-coveted lead as Katniss in "The Hunger Games," Stone went back to the drawing board.

Teresa Palmer and Olvia Wilde had also met with Stone for the role. While Lively is still awaiting an offer, several people with knowledge of the process tell Variety that she is Stone's top choice.

When Variety asked Lively (who was at CinemaCon promoting "The Green Lantern" earlier this month) about joining the project, she demurred -- but didn't deny interest.

"I'm a huge fan of Oliver Stone," she said. "I would love to … when you look at directors that you want to work with, he's always on the top of the list. It would be a dream to be able to work with him."

Universal will distribute the pic, which looks on target to hit its June start date -- but all is riding on Stone locking up his Ophelia. Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman have also been eyed for roles.

Lively, who won critical acclaim for her role in Ben Affleck's "The Town," has a lot to think about as shooting begins on CW's "Gossip Girl."

She had been considering another role: as Glinda the good Witch of the East in Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" for Disney. As it stands, shooting schedules for "Savages" and "Oz" would make it difficult for her to do both, though sources close to Lively say several options are still being considered.

Lively is currently filming "Hick" with Chloe Moretz and Alec Baldwin.

She is repped by CAA and Untitled.

John Travolta, Uma Thurman And Blake Lively Join 'Savages' Cast

EXCLUSIVE: Oliver Stone is putting together a killer cast for Savages, the drama based on Don Winslow’s bestselling novel. Stone is arranging a Pulp Fiction reunion of John Travolta and Uma Thurman, as the two actors are in talks to join the ensemble cast. Also joining is is The Town’s Blake Lively, who beat out a group of young actresses to play the role of O. Travolta will play Dennis, a burned out DEA agent, and Thurman will play O’s mom, Paqu.

They join Taylor Kitsch, already set to play who’ll play the role of former Navy SEAL Chon (Kitsch has already begun training with the real SEALs); Aaron Johnson, who plays the role of Ben; Salma Hayek, who’ll play the role of Mexican cartel queen-pin Elena; and Benicio Del Toro, who plays the vicious cartel enforcer Lado. The script is by Winslow and Shane Salerno. There are several more roles to go.

Universal Pictures is financing and distributing the film, which begins production in early July. Savages focuses on the relationship between best friend Laguna pot growers Chon and Ben, who live a cozy life with their trippy galpal, O. Their pot is so good that the Mexican cartel tries to coerce them into working for the cartel. When they refuse, the cartel kidnaps O and charges a heavy ransom to get her back. The growers pay the ransom by covertly ripping off the cartel’s own shipments, a most dangerous game.

EXCLUSIVE -- Emile Hirsch has joined the fast-growing cast of Oliver Stone's "Savages."Hirsch joins a cast that already stars Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson and Benicio del Toro. And as Variety first reported, Blake Lively is at the top of Stone's list for the female lead.
Stone will helm and is currently revising the script by Don Winslow and Shane Salerno.
Based on Winslow's novel, story revolves around two Laguna Beach marijuana kingpins forced to work for the Mexican cartel after the girlfriend they casually share is kidnapped.
Moritz Bormann and Eric Kopelofff are producers. Universal will distribute with a production start date set for this summer.

I gotta say, this sounds more interesting than Stone's usual.

Stone is assembling a killer cast. While this project doesn't sound interesting to me, I hope this turns out good.

First Look:

kitsch told empire it is gotta be hard R and it is pulp fiction meets goodfellas

Taylor Kitsch and Olivia Wilde are both mediocre to me. I much prefer it when Jennifer Lawrence was involved. Haven't seen enough of Aaron Johnson to judge. Salma Hayek is fine by me.
Aaron Johnson was good as young John Lennon in Nowhere Boy.

I'm guessing the pot dealer role is the reason Aaron Johnson has crazy blonde hair and a 70s mustache recently

Interesting premise, decent cast
However I dont think they picked a good release date

The poster reminds me of Babel. There's probably other similar posters, but that was the first one that I thought of. Even the font looks the same. Anyway, a trailer should be coming soon.

This is in my Top 5 of the year. I can't wait to see this. Sounds like a great plot with a killer cast.
