I've always liked the Halo storyline and its universe so I wanted to see what everyone else thought of it, I'll list different specifics that you can rank each part in and then you can rank it overall:

Here are the questions:

How is it in originality?

How is it as far as First Person Shooters go?

How is it compared to overall games besides their genre?

Without the books to flesh out the universe, how is it just with the games and nothing else to go by?

How is it with everything including the Graphic Novel and the books?

Did you like the ciff hangers that Halo 2 presented to you?

How is it overall?

I'll try to give my opinion in depth later but I liked the storyline.

Also, as a question of my own...

Are the books canon to the Halo storyline or are they their own universe? Did Bungie comment one way or the other? What about the Graphic Novel?

I like the Halo storyline as well. Most people do, and it's unanimous in reviews that the series has good storylines.

I think the premise is pretty good. Aliens fighting for religious reasons is a nice diversion from "We want your resources" or "Your stupid minds!".

It sets up a good base for us to shoot life, too. These guys are fanatics, we have guns, ratatatatatat. :D

I wish Halo 2's story was less character-based (and politics-based :o ) and more event-based like Halo 1, but I enjoyed Halo 2 anyways. :D

Uh.. thanks for putting no good reason for no (no bias at all here...).... it's not good, it's a generic alien invasion story line. I want interesting plots, and if it's just an average story, I want amazing gameplay. Granted, I didn't play through the whole thing.. but I've played through half of it (with a bad story and ok gameplay that's quite a bit, and I'm talking about the first one, second one I played maybe half hour into).

The story is ok it puts a good spin (religous fanatasim) on a generic plot (teh Aliemz pwnzzor teh humies). Gameplay, it's an FPS. The most originaly thing they did to stand out was make melee you swing your gun instead of pulling out a gimp-ass knife. But like every FPS with a sci-fi element in it they put in head craps (IE the flood). Everyone copy's that motif from HL and it's gotta stop! I can see why it's uniqueness and more-o-the-sameness make it so popular.

The story is more than half the reason I play the games, so yeah.

Wait. I put three options spreading out to no and three spreading out to yes with one in the middle. No, I hate the story line but love the gameplay, no I hate the story line and the gameplay or I didn't even know Halo had a story line. I had to give a generic option for each question and then I gave questions that you could answer to flesh out your opinion. I assume you wanted every single option to be "no, it's a generic alien invasion story line which is just stupid" with one being an ok option. Seeing as how you haven't played the full game, you kinda get past the whole "generic alien invasion story line" anyway upon which they don't even invade Earth (the first Halo).

i hate the story........ i play for gameplay

Love the story. I've probably read The Fall of Reach a total of five times in one year. The gameplay is just added spice. Both are spectacular and I look forward to Halo 3.

The story is a perfect reason why Halo should be made into a movie. And with PJ and co. behind it, I cannot wait!!

YEAH, YOU NEED TO ACTUALLY FINISH A STORY BEFORE COMMENTING ON IT. :cmad: :woot:

Um.. sorry.. but if a story isn't interesting enough to keep me going for more than half the game... it's not good. Now if I only played maybe an hour or so, I'ld see your point, but half the game is enough.

How do you know it's half of the game if you didn't finish it? :o

For sure. I still haven't finished Halo2, after having it since the Christmans is came out. :wow: And I still don't know how far into the story I am. Other than I just saw the giant phsychic plant for the first time.

He couldn't. He's hopefully just testing how many ways he can lose peoples respect.

When conversations about them can measure your intelligence.

I'm friends with Kalit in real life, but he's totally wrong about it being a generic alien invasion. The aliens motives being one of the biggest reasons. Also the fact that in the first Halo they don't invade anything, it's a neutral planet/ring. And when they do hit earth in 2 it's by mistake and not really even an invasion.

To be fair, the Covenant are/were searching for the Ark, which, I believe, happens to be on Earth. However, it's not the generic aliens must conquer Earth type story. The only reason they are after Earth is because of the Ark which happens to activate all Halos to my reasoning. Humans are also descendants of the Forerunners which is another significant part in the story.

Anyway, still, the point stands, Halo 1 had nothing to do with conquering Earth, it had to do with activating Halo, which, in turn, would destory all sentient life in the universe.

And the alien side is fleshed out, how many times do you see rebellions happen within the alien group that is "conquering" Earth? Right now the Covenant is split up between Prophets, Brutes, Jackels vs. Elites, Hunters, and Grunts. Go GRUNTS!

I like the storyline, and I love the universe. But without the books to paint a bigger picture I don't think the games could hold their own. I hated Halo 2 for being incomplete though, that was such bulls**t, at least Halo 3 looks to make up for it and more.

When conversations on video games about fighting aliens gets to that point, everyone should just stop for a second and realize its a video game about fighting aliens. Not a measuring stick for intelligence. Unless you're pathetic.
