Anyone going to watch this show starring Christina Ricci? It starts on ABC on 25 September.

Here's a summary from Wiki:

Pan Am is a television series centered around the iconic airline Pan American World Airways during the 1960s. The period drama, from writer Jack Orman (ER) and director Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing), will focus on the pilots and flight attendants working for the world-famous airline in 1963.
The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television, was picked up by ABC in May 2011 for the 2011–2012 television season.[1] Sony licensed the rights to the Pan Am name and logo from Pan Am Systems, a New Hampshire-based railroad company that acquired the Pan Am brand in 1998.[2]
The series is scheduled to debut on September 25, 2011.

Yeah, I find Ricci hot on that poster.

I am, I love that time period so I'm all over it.

Christina Ricci is hot,but I'll be skipping this series.

Ill be watching. Hopefully its good enough to fill the void for DH in my sunday night heart after DH ends this year.

It's funny. I remember when Pan Am ended in 1991. It doesn't feel that long ago. I wonder if they'll mention TWA in the series?

Hmmm... I'll watch the pilot episode...

heh.

I'll be giving this one a chance. I'm not expecting much, but since Ricci is there. It's got me curious at least.

I hope its not as boring as Mad Men.

Well I suppose there is potential for more variation with Pan Am being set in an aiport or aboard an airplane. However, I'm sure a lot of the drama will be also about Pan Am as a company gaining success and fending off its rivals.

What would be good is to have a police procedural or action show set in the 60s. That way it would have that cool setting, but would also have a non soapish reason to tune into it rather than just following a drama. Of course, there wouldn't be DNA testing and other forensic evidence available, so it could limit things. But then, shows like Law and Order don't really rely on DNA like CSI.

No more cop, lawyer or doctor shows. Hollywood should be banned from that for one full season.

Yeah, if I see one more spinoff from CSI I'm going to start breaking things. :cmad:

As for Pan Am, I think the setting is interesting, and materials are refreshing, and most importantly I like Christina Ricci alot and her involvement does make me very curious about this series. I'll probably give this show a shot and see how good it is.

I hope the different world locations actually play apart in the story and not just only pretty backgrounds (because those background will not hold up... seriously, you can almsot see the green shining thorugh FFS!).

I'd be happy if it just doesnt feel like the Mad Men cash-grab it could very well come comes across as...

Looking forward to seeing this series But football season comes first.
Hope its not cancel before Janurary.

Well of all the new shows I think I liked this one best.

Great pilot. It was pretty interesting and I just the 1960s setting. I'll definitely be tuning in every Sunday for this show.

Haven't watched it yet. Better than The Playboy Club?

Yes. The feel, the characters are all more interesting.

For a "Mad Men Wannabe", it failed, but overall, the pilot was decent.

Were black people allowed on those planes in 63? What about the asian stewardess or the Indian co-pilot?

I was surprised to see an Indian co-pilot. I don't recall an asian stewardess though.

Ok, finally managed to watch this. Pretty good so far. Certainly more interesting than the Playboy Club. It has so much more style and charm, and manages to recreate the 60s look far better. It also moves at a brisker pace than Mad Men, which is one of my criticisms of that show. MM can be quite slow sometimes, almost like a British BBC drama, with periods of no soundtrack at all. At least this has more of a soundtrack, and a jazzy one at that.

For all the iconic appearance of the Playboy bunnies, Pan Am has managed to make the iconic look of the 60s stewardesses look far more appealing and eyecatching. It must be the filming.

Wasn't Mike Vogel a front runner for Captain America? I'm glad Evans got the role in the end.

She's in the beginning I think. What about the black couple on the plane?

I don't think there were any black people in the episode. lol

Mad Men is still the best of the three shows. It's the only one that's critical of the time-period. Pan Am focuses too much on the nostalgia of the era. Like Prison Mike just said, there's not one single Black person on the pilot and the show doesn't even bother to address the issue. Compare that to Mad Men's pilot which revolved around the discovery that cigarettes caused cancer and all the characters, who are advertisers, trying to spin that information so they can sell the product. Mad Men is simply the more interesting show -- even if it's "slow" at times. As for The Playboy Club, it's a little of both. Mad Men and Pan Am are the two extremes. Playboy Club is in the middle.
