Veteran actor Pat Hingle dies at 84 in NC home

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (AP) — Pat Hingle, a veteran actor whose career included a recurring role as Commissioner Gordon in several Batman movies in the 1990s, has died. He was 84.
Family friend Michele Seidman says Hingle died at his home in Carolina Beach shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.
Seidman says he decided to settle in the coastal town after shooting the movie "Maximum Overdrive" in the area in 1986. He lived there for more than 15 years.
She said Hingle had battled multiple health problems over the last several years.
His career in movies and television spanned six decades, and he was also nominated for a Tony Award in 1958. Hingle's last movie was "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," which was released in 2006.

wow, that was now rather shocking. a real shame.

I'm sorry to read that. He had an extensive career and a fixed place in the mythos.

Man, this is sad. He had a long career. The first movie I remember seeing him in was Hang'em High with Clint Eastwood.

Heath Ledger. Eartha Kitt. Pat Hingle. Big losses for the Bat movie world.

r.i.p. but please dont start saying theres a batman curse. heaths death was unexpected. but kitt and hingle were older. of course they were gonna die sometime...

I liked him as Gordon to. He was a part of my introduction into the mythology via "BATMAN" and it's just going to be heartbreaking when the remaining members of that cast start dropping off...Michael Gough, Lee Wallace, Jerry Hall, etc...

I mean say what you will about his rendition of Gordon, but I LOVED him under Burton's direction. Sure Bob Hastings and Gary Oldman have more, shall we say, competant handlings on the character...But Hingle was still great, IMO.

R.I.P. Pat. We're gonna miss you, man.

What a shame. Its strange because we watch the films and tend to still see these actors as they were, not as they currently are. Time is passing by so quickly.

I dont think anyone is saying or even implying theres a "curse".:whatever: Simply stating the names of actors who have contributed to the Batman mythos who have recently passed.

i wasnt implying that you guys said anything. everytime something happens to someone involed or once involved with a franchise people say that its cursed. e news ran a stupid special that may have made me lose some brain cells on how the dark knight was cursed. now a bunch of dumb tabloid sites say it.

wait...why do i care what tabloid sites say?? looks like ive got some soul searching to do.

Damn, I kinda jumped when I saw the title of the thread. Its a shame but at least he enjoyed a long life. RIP Pat

R.I.P. :(

I liked him as Gordon, especially in the first 'Batman' (where he had most to do). It's just a pity that he didn't have more to work with.

Rest In Peace, Pat Hingle. We'll miss you.:csad:

RIP, Pat. He will be missed.

And, not to sound insensitive, but I'm somewhat surprised Michael Gough is still around. The dude is nearly a century old. I wont be all that surprised if he's the next to go. :csad:

i see his face all the time on tv. time keeps moving on. its amazing to think batman was twenty years ago.

i hope i can have a fraction of his success and longevity.

godspeed mr hingle

R.I.P Pat Hingle.

May you rest in peace and thank you for you contributions to an icon of not only comic books but cinema as well.

You will be missed.

I do hope his name will appear at the end credits of the next Batman movie. It's only fair, he was part of the foundations of Batman and he deserves the token of respect.
