Action-Adventure Peaky Blinders - 1920's BBC Gangster Series Starring Cillian Murphy

They took Tolkien's industrial Birmingham as Mordor concept to the max on this show.
Do we know for a fact that Alfie Solomons is actually an antagonist?

Spoiler warning if you have not seen episode one of season 2
Alfie looks more like an ally than an enemy so far

One article said Alfie "clashes" with Tommy, but another said he offers him a "unique opportunity" (getting him in on his "bakery"?).

Of course, could be Alfie's not trustworthy, but also possible they just made Hardy out to be some big bad to hype him up, since he's probably the biggest "star" on the show, comparatively speaking.

I know Charlotte Riley plays an aristocrat who "crosses paths" with Tommy, but where does Noah Taylor fit in?

^Taylor's playing Sabini, the Shelbys London rival.

My thoughts after watching the episode:

"Peaky Blinders on ****in' 'oliday!" was the best line of the whole show. :funny:

London in the 1920s looked positively insane. The Shelbys are going to have their hands full with that place.

Okay, so I can see why Hardy's sporting a beard: His character's Jewish.

Poor Ada, always trying to get way from the family and then being sucked right back in. :csad:

The way the show was edited, I thought Freddie had died in the blast. It took me a long time to figure out what had actually happened. It's a pity he's gone since his character seemed like it had potential.

Campbell is still one of the most evil villains on TV. Glad he's back to square off with the Shelbys again.

Darn, Grace lived. I have no interest in her now that she's no longer a government agent.

The Irish gang blowing up Tommy's pub just to get him to work for them is odd. Is killing that blacksmith all they wanted him to do? Seems like they could've done that themselves. They're lucky their actions haven't triggered some gang war. I assume there's more to this particular storyline and I'm curious to see it.

Short featurette about Hardy and Noah Taylor's characters:

Alfie looks so laid back, but so psychotic!

Can't wait to see him tonight.

I just realized Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby) was Colonel Sebastian Moran in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

He's also in Tom Hardy's upcoming movie about the Kray twins.

Arthur's my favourite Shelby. What a bloke!

Noah Taylor and Tom Hardy are enjoying themselves I think...Hardy's dog even made it into the show (and his wife, but she might have gotten there on her own).

I liked Tommy's nose bleed when Alfie was threatening him.

Its a great show Series 2 Ep 1 was full of brutality however the storyline was kinda all over the place, maybe too much set out too soon.

Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy on screen together, Nice.

Oh, Arthur. He seems determined to ruin himself.

If someone had walked in on Alfie Solomon while he was discussing his bread they'd think he was just some doddering baker, but he's quite clearly vicious. I think Tommy's going to get in over his head quickly if he aligns himself with him.

Tommy's whole plan to expand in London might prove to be more than he can handle.

He's a little fish in a big pond now. Neither Sabini or Alfie are people you want to either cross or ally with, IMO.

Loving this show. Really like that Hardy is a Camden boy. I live 5 minute walk from the canal, some of my mates are actually descended from the Yiddishers (Jewish gang).

Glad the story is actually fact based as well Kimber, Sabini were real and so was Sabini's war with the Yiddishers and Birmingham gangs).

Tom Hardy's character. There was a Jewish London gangster named Alfie Solomon.

Where do you think Tolkien got the idea for Mordor? Or Lowry got the ideas for his paintings?

London was worse with 12000 dying one December due to the smog.

Just watch the opening of the London olympics. Satanic Mills...

(every time I watch it I cry)

Sabini and Solomons both seem like they need to take their meds if you ask me.

One thing they got wrong about Sabini, is that he couldn't speak Italian.

New episode tonight.

The cracks are already starting to appear for the Shelby family.

Damn that prison scene was cold blooded

^Seriously. I felt awful for poor Harold (I think that was his name). He seemed like a decent guy who just needed money. I hoped they wouldn't show the actual murder but then...

The Shelbys are going to regret taking in Michael. He's clearly trouble. I'm curious about May, too, but does every woman on this show need to have black hair? It's going to be difficult telling them all apart.
