People/Superheroes of Color in the MCU?

Is Marvel doing a good enough job? Or could they do more? Or does no-one care? I mean Falcon is 1 amazing character. I never read the comics, I just saw him and was impressed by his role in the Winter Soldier.

Though Rhodey/War Machine seems quite one-note. Though that's more to writing than to any stereotypes.

what do you guys think?

I think Marvel does okay. I wouldn't say they are perfect. But we also haven't hit Black Panther yet.

My issue is that black men are only in "sidekick" roles thus far. I would happily watch a War Machine movie (that I assume would do plenty well box office wise if RDJ made an appearance). I don't know that a Falcon movie would do as well, but again, I'd pay to see it.

and now we have Goliath in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Making him a supporting role or some sort of antagonist at best.

There's improvements to be made. But I'd say at least there are a plethora of cultures represented. Spider-Man Homecoming essentially encompasses this throughout. Diverse, but still whitewashed primary cast (Holland, Keaton, RDJ, Tomei)

Few things make me cringe more than someone longing to eviscerate themselves at the altar of political correctness. Yes, of course Marvel is doing "enough" (whatever that means.) If you look at the comics, it doesn't seem to be "enough" until every single white male is replaced with a woman or minority. It's disgusting.

If you talking mcu films ,then i would say some of the black men are not side kicks.
Some of course are or play that role at times.
Black panther and nick fury for examples are not side kicks.
Heimdall does not have big enough role but i will not call him a sidekick.
I read his role will be bigger in thor 3 however.
Now the two below tend play more of sidekick role i think,but not all time.

As for falcon,he plays the sidekick role but some time he play the team role and a few times the leadership role.Sometimes Rhodey is not side kick role,sometimes he is.
It depends on the scenes.
Mordo's role was varied.
Sometimes he was more if the sidekick and sometimes he was not.
Most of the time he was not,but looks like he maybe a villain or anti-hero upcoming.

Note-some of other poc characters in mcu films were not sidekicks either.

Not good enough. Sure there are a lot black superheroes now, but where are the Latinos, the Asian, the Middle-eastern? There are other POC here, other than black.

It's down right pathetic in the MCU with Latino representation, all there is, is the Luis from Ant-Man and the strawberry vendor in Iron Man 2.

Having characters that have always been white being portrayed by white actors isn't "whitewashing"

Fair point. Hollywood thinks diversity is basically replacing a white man with a black man, or replacing a white man with a white woman.

I hope someday we see an Asian male Marvel superhero get his own feature film released in THEATRES that isn't based off Asian stereotypes i.e. Martial arts, dragons, anything oriental. Hopefully someone not as well known as Darkhawk gets cast as an Asian teenager!

It's a respectable question. Now yes, sadly we have to ask this because for so long, only white heterosexual males got to be the stars/faces of everything. I think the MCU is doing a good job adapting the comics they have. Though of course, it could be better. Especially when it comes to roles for women beyond that of "damsel in distress".

It may cause you to cringe, but it's not as if I am demanding MCU films featuring a Slovakian to make all of Slovakia happy.

Films: Black Widow and War Machine. Add Silverclaw, Synapse, Tigra and Spectrum to the Avengers lineup. Also add Moondragon and Phyla Vell to the Guardians so we can also get some gay protagonists characters in the MCU.

TV: Shang Chi, Electra, Ghost Rider (2 out or 4 are Hispanic and I want to see Alejandra), Blade, Moon Knight (Jews technically count). Add White Tiger as a supporting character.

And do something with Ms. Marvel.

I feel like the Ghost Riders need their own series. Preferably on cable where the show won't need to be as family friendly as it needs to be on ABC.

Even if Marvel don't completely cut ties with Netflix, I can't see Ghost Rider on Netflix since he's a horror hero, not a street-level vigilante. Plus all of them are off in LA and the Defenders are over in New York.

How is it disgusting to want some POC and women to be the main heroes instead of sidekicks? Nobody is saying to replace your beloved white males with POC or Women but if Marvel can give Antman a movie then Black Widow should have had a movie years ago.

Also this isn't about the comics the topic clearly says MCU.

That aside they are doing better with Luke Cage and Black Panther. As well as throwing Captain Marvel into the mix... although there are some who want the male version anyway. There is a huge library of characters out there that can be used if given the same love and care as the rest of the MCU.

if Marvel can give Antman a movie then Black Widow should have had a movie years ago.

The popularity and impact of Black Widow has always been a fraction of Ant-Man (especially Hank Pym.) Hence why Black Widow never even got her own series in the comics until 1999 or so and every time she does they are cancelled in a year due to low sales.

She is a very basic character and not that interesting. It has nothing to do with her gender.

Now this is probably true. I have very little reason to worry because luckily it seems the powers that be, such as Fiege, are wise enough not to listen to these people. The MCU is in good hands.
