This thread is for any recast, reboot or fantasy cast for days and films gone by. Specifically for people you wished would've or wish will play the Dark Knight. Feel free to recast any script, existing or unproduced (such as the Mankiewicz script "The Batman"). You have to use all knew cast members, so no using Heath Ledger, Jack Nicolson or Michael Keaton for example.

My pick, easily is Gregory Peck for Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Harrison Ford in Batman'89

And I love Nicholson but if he weren't in, I'd have wanted Tim Curry. That would have been amazing.

I would've like to have seen Jon Hamm play Bats in these new films. He's a phenomenal actor and he looks the spit of Bruce Wayne.

About 10 minutes into Inception, I thought, "Wow, Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make a great Batman." And I started to shrug it off, like, "No, you're only thinking that because he's a good young actor with dark hair," but no, no, I really think, given like 10 years, he could make a terrific Batman.

I 100% agree with this. I actually thought both him and Leo would do an excellent job of Batman, but especially JGL.

Alec Baldwin as Batman back in 89.

Some excellent suggestions so far.

Back in 1989 I'd have picked Alec Baldwin.

Today, when I watch Jon Hamm in Mad Men I can't help thinking how perfect he would have been for Bruce Wayne. Not only is he physically a great match with the jet black hair and square jaw, but Don Draper shares many traits with Bruce Wayne including the whole double-life.

If I was going way back and casting a 1939 circa Bruce Wayne/Batman I'd pick Tyrone Power.

back in 1989, my picks for Batman would be Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, or Richard Gere

not taking anything away from Keaton because he was awesome, but those 3 guys i listed look and can act the part

I don't see it. He has too much of a lanky build and boyish look to him. Now Riddler on the other hand...

There really wasn't anyone better to play Batman in 1989 than Michael Keaton.

Also, I think Gregory Peck could have played a good Batman in a 1950's Batman film by Hitchcock set in 39/40's and Clint Eastwood would have been a good Batman in a early 1970's Batman by Don Siegel or Martin Scorsese.

Willem Dafoe as Joker.

That would have been really awesome.:up::up:

Joseph Gordon Levitt could easily bulk up given time. Homer is right, he's perfect. To me it's his attitude onscreen and presence in Inception. He's got the right synthesis of Keaton and Bale. I could see him as Wayne and I could see him as Batman, moreover I can see him doing it better than both of them.

Well, that's why I say in like 10 years. I can't see it right now either.
It's not just about his age. He's almost 30 now, which means he's already the right age for it (he looks younger). The problem for me is that even in 10 years time I still don't think he'd have the right look for it, and I don't see the kind of "edge" needed that guys like Bale and Keaton had.

I've got to agree with Happy Jack. There are numerous actors who come to mind as an alternative choice to play Batman/Bruce Wayne before JGL even enters the frame, and to be honest I don't think I'd ever consider him for the role. Sure, he'd make an excellent Riddler (a role I imagine he has a huge shot at grabbing bearing in mind his working relationship with Christopher Nolan), and were he a few years younger he would even have made an inspired pick for Spiderman, but the dashing, physically imposing playboy Bruce Wayne...I don't really see it.

I get the Willem Dafoe thing, but I think his take on The Green Goblin in Spider-Man was so Joker-esque that I don't feel like we missed out on anything.

Yes, we missed him as the Joker.

AND, I missed him as Green Goblin too since someone thought it was the most brilliaint thing to have his face covered. :csad:

I mentioned this one in the Missed Casting Opportunities thread on Misc. Films: Alan Rickman as Mr. Freeze. If that character had been taken seriously and had some pathos, he would have been the perfect choice, and I'm really sorry we didn't get that version.

Also Patrick Stewart would have been great as Mr. Freeze.

Alec Baldwin as Batman back in 89.

Watch The Shadow - Alec Baldwin is the best Bruce Wayne there never was. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he makes a better Bruce than Christian Bale - the perfect suave playboy, but brooding and troubled beneath the facade.

I think he was considered in B'89 but he personally vowed to never again work with Tim Burton because he said Burton made his character boring and stale in Beetlejuice.
