I don't think he would have to any more serious than the prior Doctors.
 
He has already played a character in the Whoverse.

Well, technically it was in Torchwood, but still.
 
He's already been in Torchwood and Doctor Who.

And, no, I don't want Capaldi. His profile is too high, and every time you looked at him you'd see Malcolm Tucker.

Agreed.

I'm sure he would make a fine Doctor, but yeah, the continuity errors well as his high profile would just make it feel off.
 
He proved himself on Torchwood that you could not view him as MT IMO.

Plus what does him being on the show before have to do with anything? Both Freema Agyeman and Karen Gillan were on the show prior to their companion roles.

His was a much more prominent role as he interacted directly with the Doctor, whereas, Karen and Freema didn't interact with the Doctor at all and played very minor roles.
