Pilot Season 2008

I haven't read them so this is probably a bit of a reactionary judgment but both those books look terrible.

I didn't read either of those either. Urban Myths was the only one I was actually interested in, specifically because it felt different from the crowd of gritty, urban stories that seem to spew forth from indie publishers like so much pus from a suppurating wound. But I guess I'm in the minority because oh, look, two gritty, urban stories won.

Coincidentally, there's already a Save Urban Myths petition up. I signed it.

I read both the Core and Urban Myths and I'd like to read more of both really but certainly Urban Myths stands out more.

Does anyone know how the rights stand for these? Do these properties now belong to Top Cow as they have published them or are they able to shop around to other publishers?

No idea. I know Lady Pendragon was one of the comics for one of the Pilot Seasons, and I'm pretty sure that's not owned by Top Cow because it's been published by a variety of publishers over the years. If Jay Faerber and/or Jorge Molina own the rights to Urban Myths, I'd love to see them ditch Top Cow and find another publisher. If Top Cow owns it, maybe one of the winners will get canceled before too long and they'll try to fill its vacuum with UM or something. Maybe. Hopefully.

Thanks for signing and posting it here! I appreciate it, I'm so darn pumped for this book!

Exactly, I'm sure a publisher like Boom, Oni or Dynamite would love to pick up Urban Myths it would be a good seller for them.

Whoops. I didn't see this thread before.

Yeah, Corp. Urban Myths somehow lost between the last update and the final tally, which is a bunch of bull. I don't see why all the fans who had been keeping it up in the top two would just sit back in the final days, or why so many other decided to vote for whichever book bumped it out.

As far as talent went, Urban Myths and The Core both should have won. I actually liked Alibi a bunch, too.

Genius has a neat knee-jerk reaction to reading it, but it depends on if the writer can keep it going without descending within a handful of issues into something that's only a parody of what it's supposed to be. And if he can't, then why the hell does he deserve an ongoing?
