Pixar's Brave - In Theaters Summer 2012

just look at those fantastic designed faces. they look so weird yet appealing. the main femal character look so unique comapred to every pixar character. this is how you do it.

why is this so hard for dreamworks. why do all their humans look like idiots?why is it so hard to NOT make the look ugly?their human designs are an insult.

i think dreamworks has more varied character designs than pixar...

that bottom pic of that tribal guy looks like any other generic pixar human..with those eyes and monkey ears

in fact in the incredibles features they show how they have their own character generator that uses the same character and morphs different areas of the face.

dreamworks tries new things, some fail some dont, How to train your dragons lead character was probably the most expressive ive ever seen.

The director on Brave Linda Chapman is from Dreamworks, nine months ago it was reported that she was moved off the project and replaced by Mark Andrews. The concept and designs are hers, and the initial story was hers too.

James Baxter has gone over to CG animation and Ginormica/Susan in Monster vs Aliens was animated by him, and the father in How to Train your Dragon was animated by him too. The reason I'm brining James Baxter up is because his animation on Susan is the best and most expressive animation to date in a CG animated feature. Don Hahn the head producer at Disney considers him to be the best animator alive. Katzenberg knew he was the best so he snatched him up.

Beauty and the Beast- ballroom dance sequence
Lion King- Rafiki, Rafiki and Simba lesson sequence
Prince of Egypt- burning bush sequence

one person on animated movies doesnt do every concept design.with animated movies its 100% about team work. from animation,look,direction,story,....

Dark_b I was wrong.

So it's now crossed out.

The characters look like rejected designs from Tangled redone by Dreamworks' animators. Not bad, but I was surprised at how Merida looks.

It'd be interesting to see how Kelly McDonald voices the character...

Merida's eyes scared the hell out of me.The designs looks pretty cool.Pixar has the best CG humans in animation.

How'd you like to get up in the middle of the night and see that staring back at you in the hallway? :wow:

As much as I hate most of the movies Dreamworks churns out, I think you're being a little dramatic about the designs. My main problem lies with their stories.

Little fun fact - Apparently Megamind and Monsters vs. Aliens inhabit the same universe according to a "word of god" source.

Little fun fact- so do Octomom and Rosie O'Donnell.

Doesn't mean I want to look at either of them. :o

Nah,the designs do suck. They're eyesores, and it's one of the bigger turn offs about their films.Well the Humans at least. They do better animals than pixar imo.

Trailer, poor quality it may be.

This is gonna be so ****ing good.

I know I'm in the minority on this but I think that How to Train Your Dragon is better than most Pixar movies. I prefer Wall E, The Incredibles, and Toy Story 1 over it but thats it. This movie could be good could be bad, haven't really seen anything to push me to either side. I hope her main weapon is a bow though, I've been waiting for a movie were the hero's main weapon is a bow.

While I think Pixar is better overall, I think there is sorta an injustice in not giving Dreamworks its credit. What I can say about Dreamworks is that are willing to try for a different aesthetic in each film. Dark B tried posting images of DW's humans to discredit them but I think it did the opposite. As you can clearly see, the designs are varied which shows how broad they are with character design. What Dreamworks fails is definitely story. The animation is pretty darn good if you ask me. I don't know about anyone else, but the scene in How To Train Your Dragon where you see Hiccup's dad almost buckle from sorrow when he realized he just disowned his son was master work by the animators.

I'd Say it's better than Cars, A Bug's Life, and Monsters inc.
