Pixar's Brave - In Theaters Summer 2012

From what I've read about this movie, Dreamworks couldn't even hope to dream up something like this

I hate to say it, but I agree. But, the story intrigues me and Hell, it's PIXAR and it's original. So it will be good.

Pixar usually has a knack for creating characters that the audience cares about. DreamWorks is so focused on jokes that the characters suffer.

HTTYD did strike the right balance though.

I have to say..... looked a little Dreamworks to me.

That's exactly what I thought. I think the trailer was cut pretty crappily but the character models just look a little cheapish to me...except for the hair.

By the name, I assumed it had something to do with Indians.

I have to say it reminds me a bit of How to Train Your Dragon. Has some similar tropes.

With all the amazing movies Pixar has made, I can forgive for Cars 1 and 2.

Exactly, Cars 2 is the exception that proves the rule:

i did. the movie is so boring that i couldnt watch it after 20 minutes. the next day i forced myself to watch it. in the summer when reviews were realesed i thought it was a bad pixar movie by pixar standards. its IMO a bad movie.

its like a Micheal Bay pixar movie. every second is designed and created to make money without any story and logic in mind.

I saw it. We took my nephew to see it at an early morning show, so the audience was packed with 3-5 year olds. Even they couldn't sit still for it. Although my nephew (who's almost 4) flips out every time he sees the commercial for the DVD, so he's probably still getting it for Christmas.

I loved the first Cars. The story didn't tread any new ground, but I just thought it was a sweet movie with a lot of heart. I even liked Mater. And after seeing a lot of the real Route 66 during a cross country trip with my dad a few years ago, I have an even better appreciation for it now.

But Cars 2 was a mess. The last thing that series needed was a crazy spy story, and giving Mater the bigger role didn't work. It's like all the characters from the last movie, including Lightning McQueen, were barely in it.

It's funny though, I have friends whose older kids (who were 3-4 when the first movie came out) loved it. They say it worked because those kids had pretty much outgrown the first film, so the felt it was more geared towards that age group.

But I definitely thought it was their weakest film.

That's all I needed to know. And thank you. I get the sense half the people or most of the people here haven't even seen Cars 2 and criticize it anyway. And I don't think it's our place to accuse Pixar of just wanting to make money. John Lassiter was the driving force behind this movie who is a huge car fan because he loves cars and wanted to see it get made. And because he's so powerful, he gets it made. Simple as that. He's no sell out. People may not like this film as much, but he likes it, so who are we to accuse him of doing ti for the wrong reasons? We are just people who read that they're making a Cars 2.

Cars 2 has a 38% on RT and a 57 on MC. While not wretchedly abysmal, it's the stain on Pixar's robust list...right next to Cars. I have not seen Cars 2 but I have seen Cars and Cars was bleh to begin with.

With that simple above evidence on quality via critic and GA response, either it was pushed on Pixar's creative team and they weren't fully behind it or Pixar's creative team tried their hardest to make a great movie and just failed. Imma guess the former. I mean really, Larry the Cable Guy is the star of the movie.

And considering Pixar's total body of work, I don't think it's a blemish on the entire studio. It's one dud. I'll still take their worst movie over half the stuff that makes millions now.

The only pixar movies I have enjoyed start to finish are;
Incredibles
Ratatouille
The toy story trilogy

It felt 'wall-e' turned rubbish when it left the earth and 'up' turned rubbish after the old woman dying montage the rest of pixar movies I can't stand.
This movie (brave) looks like it's ripping off how to train your dragon which IMHO is better than all the pixar movies apart from the 5 I listed above.

That would be illogical.

That would mean seeing ever movie, including every Twilight movie, to define quality. Surely once someone has seen one Twilight film they are able to accurately gauge wether they would be interested in the others without being forced to watch them all.

No you just have to see the movies you chose to criticize. Or in other words, criticize the movies you have seen. Thats why I have never bashed Cars 2.

I don't care if you've seen the first Transformers and didn't like it, you have no grounds to criticize the next two without seeing them. Because it's only a prejudice. Not an argument. You're going to look like a damn fool for making an argument about a movie you haven't even seen. Good luck to see how far you get with only a prejudice.

I have learned to trust in Pixar, even though Cars 2 is below average for them (the animation and detail is still perfection), they made 11 consecutive great movies (some of them nearly masterpieces), so I'm still gonna give Brave a chance. They also tend to make some so-so trailers (I remember the trailer for Up was a big 'meh', but the movie turned out to be awesome).
